My list of one-click easy-install mods for Witcher 3
By ☯ dreamer ☮
!!! Attention: I haven't tested this guide with the latest version (next gen) of the game, so this guide may not work with the latest version. !!!

One of the reasons I made this guide is to show people, that everyone can use mods, even if you consider yourself a computer analphabet or too lazy to follow installation instructions.

This guide containts my list of Witcher 3 mods that are:
  • very easy to install (one click) once you meet the requirements below, almost no effort
  • working with the latest version of the game (in this case GameOfTheYear 1.32)

This guide does NOT contain some basic information about:
  • How to install, set up and use Steam, Witcher 3, Vortex, a web browser... and so on (Google is your friend)
  • What to do if anything goes wrong (Google is your friend again)

I will try to be as clear and as fool-proof as possible, but if you think I missed something, use the comment section please.
The categorization of mods is based on the Nexus Mods and Vortex categorization to avoid confusion.
Use this guide at your own very little risk.

Requirements
  • Registration on the Nexus Mods website[www.nexusmods.com]
  • Installation of the Vortex mod manager[www.nexusmods.com]
  • A computer strong enough to handle the high end graphics of some texture mods (for example, I had a 2GB GeForce graphics card at the time of writing this guide)

After meeting all of these requirements, you can install a lot of mods with just one click in the Vortex application. Other mods require manual installation with specific installation instructions, but they are not mentioned in this guide.
One-click install mods vs. Manual install mods
One-click install mods
  • Fast and easy way to make a significant improvement to the game
  • If a mod has a conflict with another mod, just disable it and the game works normally as it should
  • Vortex offers a nice user-friendly interface
  • You save a lot of time
  • They are sometimes called Auto install mods

Manual install mods
  • Sometimes they contain very nice improvements to the game, so they are worth the time and effort of trying to install them
  • May require a lot of extra space for file backups (in case you mess something up)
  • If you make a mistake (while following the installation instructions), it may be hard to find
  • Script collisions and version compatibility may be hard to determine before you decide to install a mod, so you may waste a lot of time for nothing and rolling back changes you already made may not be easy
Pro tips
  • Pro Tip 0: Even auto install mods may have some additional instructions for you to follow in order to work. Make sure you do not miss them. Do your homework and read the mod description carefully.
  • Pro Tip 1: Make sure you avoid conflicts by activating only one mod for a specific thing at a time. For example, if you have 2 mods for changing the look of Triss Merigold, make sure only one is enabled before you start the game, because your game may not start at all, if there are conflicts with scripts.
  • Pro Tip 2: Some mods may cause minor bugs in the game, but you keep them because they improve more things than they break. Sometimes they cause problems (game does not start) based on the order of installation and activation. In that case you may need to DEACTIVATE all mods and Verify game cache to redownload files that have been edited by Vortex. The error message you see shows which mod(s) cause(s) the problem(s).
  • Pro Tip 3: Some mods may cause some quests to become impossible to complete. For example the Friendly wolves mod must be disabled before one quest in Blood and Wine expansion, where you need to kill wolves in order to progress in the quest. To do that, you have to Quit the game and Start it again, without the Friendly wolves mod enabled. Then just Quit the game again, enable it back and continue the game as before.

Some mods are very simple and require little time and effort to make (mostly little script changes), but others take a lot of time and effort (texture mods) to make and look amazingly beautiful.

Final words
Thank you for reading my guide! I hope you learned something useful because of it.

Although some mods from the Nexus mods database make it easier to get certain achievements and some mods are close to what someone could call "cheats", I leave the final decision to you.

My recommendation is that you should complete atleast one full playthrough without any mods that give you sort of an unfair advantage and later you can make a better decision about the level of difficulty you want to experience in certain areas of the game.

Not that familiar with mods, downloading Witcher 3 right now. But this granny is a gamer and I have a new gaming computer. Time to unleash my creative side cause I love beautiful graphics. And I love to kill stuff :) Your guide looks straight forward and easy to understand. I'm going for it :steamhappy:
