Spoiler free part
There are 42 hidden messages in the game, introducing you to the story of a stranger who has walked this path before you. The stranger is a character in the game whom you can meet, same way as those others who are written about.

Once found, you can see the messages in your bag as “Forgotten Things”.

Also in the upper left corner of the user interface, you can see how many secrets are found / not found in your current location.

All these secrets are absolutely optional:
  • You can complete the game without them.
  • You can save all the forlorn without them.
  • You can 100% all the game achievements without them.
I had some fun searching, so maybe you want to find them yourself too.


This section is spoiler free, but be aware, all the following sections are full of spoilers. I advise you to choose which sections of this guide you want to use:
  1. Checklist - just a number, how many notes you can find in the area.
  2. Locations - screenshots and hints about where every chest is and how to get there.
  3. Journal pages - all the messages.


1. Forgotten Things checklist by areas
If you just want a minor tip on how many secrets you should have found in some area before moving on to the next campfire, here is your checklist:
  • THE FOREST campfire area – by the end gate of this campfire you have 3 notes
  • After leaving the Forest and before the Crossroad – 1 more (4 total)
  • After the Crossroad and before the next campfire – 11 notes (15 total)

  • THE MARSH campfire area – 11 notes (26 total)
  • After leaving the marsh and before the Crossroad – 1 note (27 total)
  • After the Crossroad and before the next campfire – 6 notes (33 total)

  • THE CAVES campfire area – 8 notes (41 total)
  • The Crossroad – The Forest Throne – 1 more (42 total)
Don't worry too much, you can go back. But only until your game is finished.

West direction from the campfire.
Hint:use fire.

Southwest of the previous.
Hint: climb up.

The location accessible after traveling with the Frog.
Hint: use the lever.

After leaving the Forest and before the Crossroad

The Dying Orchard, climb down and go east from the elevator.
Hint: push the tree.

The Dying Orchard, north from the Frog.

After leaving the marsh and before the Crossroad

Don't rush to the elevator.

After the Crossroad and before the next campfire

The crab puzzle location.
Hint: once solved, enter the maze.

The dam location.
Hint: use the elevator to go up.

Hint: use the elevator to go down.

Opening the water.
Hint: use the hidden stone.

Once you got a boat, before going into the Cave.
Hint: oar the boat to the right.

The Cave, before the opening of the snake gate.
Hint: turn a beam of light to the left and use the boat.
THE CAVES campfire area

Once you got a new boat - find the white lily, east direction from the Builder.
Hint: bring the flower to the skeleton.

Waterway east of the campfire.
Hint: use the lanthorn, the cylinder can be rotated.

39.
East of the previous.
Hint: use the elevator.
40.
Waterway west of the campfire.
Hint: climb all the way up and look northwest.


41.
Waterway west of the campfire, after lighting the beacon.
Hint: use the lanthorn and climb up.

The Crossroad – The Forest Throne
42.
Accessible only after leaving the Caves campfire.
Hint: use the lanthorn and climb down.

You completed the game and don't want to replay, just wondering what you missed?
This section contains all the notes - messages - journal - diary entries you can find.
No matter the order of the chests you found, the story appears to you in its own order.

@Eretica, you will always receive the notes in the same order. This is independent of the order in which the chests are opened by you. So the last forgotten thing you unveil always reads the 42nd text, regardless of which chest you opened to get it.

41/42 found, it is late into the night and am too tired to look for that one missing chest hidden somewhere within the game, so i really appreciate this. also nice cat :v

I can’t believe I couldn’t get forgotten thing 42. I opened that chest in day light later on after the darkness coming from the caves. And now it’s missing. Got 41/42 I read and matched all the scrolls you shared it is only actually the last screenshot 42 that is still missing. But the chest was opened. I really have no clue! Any idea? Need to re-play it all from scratch?

This is a really well done guide! I only missed three and just wanted the bottom section, but I thought it was really nice how you offered it in almost ascending steps of spoilers, so that people who wanted a little help but not to be told outright could still find something useful here. Thanks for writing this!

Cheers for this guide, I got 40/42 and although I'm glad there's no achievement it would've been nice if there was one (if they'd let you explore the map through chapters anyway.) Appreciate the work you put into this <3
