GHIRBI, the Gatekeeper

Description
** OFFICIAL DEVELOPER MOD **

GHIRBI, the Gatekeeper, does nothing... except allow you to enable DLL mods which execute third-party code. Many of the more interesting mods on the Workshop need this to function.

Why is this important? Because in theory, DLL mod authors could run malicious code on your machine if you install a malicious DLL mod. This is very rare, it hasn't happened on Cultist Simulator, and Steam blocks bad actors, but it has happened on at least one other game. By installing Ghirbi, you are indicating that you understand and accept this risk.

(NOTE: uploaded by AK, implementation by Chelnoque)

You won't need to install GHIRBI until after our next patch, but you can install it now to avoid interruptions if you prefer.

Im curious, what was the game and mod that got hacked on steam workshop?

@NeuroEmergent @crossbred900 did you two enable it? After subscribing and once you're on the gateofhorn branch you need to go to sixth history (top right on the main menu) and enable the mods you want.

I'm having the same issue as NeuroEmergent.

>>>>>>>> 23:37: -- Mod id '2901287611' - 'GHIRBI 1.0': disabled; has no content directory; has no loc directory; has no valid images directory;
NeuroEmergent 18 Jun, 2023 @ 9:56am
This is clearly a me problem since I can find no discussion about it. I'm on gateofhorn beta branch. I'm subscribed to Ghirbi. I'm not subscribed to any other mods. Yet the playerlog indicates:

">>>>>>>> 12:50: -- Mod id '2901287611' - 'GHIRBI 1.0': disabled; has no content directory; has no loc directory; has no valid images directory;"

GHIRBI is not being applied. When I added The Roost mod, the same message followed in the log but applied to that mod as well. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks!

Is there gonna be a funny ARG about this later? Like, if I go rooting around the code am I gonna find secret rituals that summon John Cultist Sim to my house and give me cryptic advice about birds and worms?

Tasty mod. Got hit by a meteorite, but at least it was under the "WARNING: FALLING METEORITES" weather advisory

@Quylaa
This opens a possibility of meteorites, but you will still have to add them to the game yourself.

Without GHIRBI, mods absolutely cannot run external code, meaning you're completely safe. When you install and enable it, mods can run external code. Said code has a theoretical possibility of being malicious, i.e. being a meteorite.

But even if you install GHIRBI, but never install and/or enable a DLL mod, of course, no external code will be executed by itself, and you're still completely safe.

The game warns what mods are DLL mods.

FINALLY, A MOD THAT USES A "THE HIGHER I RISE THE MORE I SEE" TAG

We all know that its all an overcomplicated plan to be the most popular mod on steam since both Roost and Shelves will require it :)
