This project is inspired by real life engraved revolvers, most of which represent acnthus (flower plant). At first glance acanthus engravings might look identical, but there are many styles and variations in different parts of the world. My goal was to create my own style that would fit cs:go and would not be overdetailed.


First of all I have slightly remastered the grip with cow leather from my previous version of this revolver. The next step was to create the ornament. With the help of Grand Master Gun Engraver Ken C Hunt (more specificly his youtube channel), I figured out more about the process of real life engravings. The true masters of the past used to engrave right away so they had no room for mistake. Me, on the other hand, had to create outlines of my ornaments, which was the hardest part. As usual, I drew it by hand in Adobe Substance Painter. After it was done, I used several techniques inside Substance Designer to create the normal map.


There are several variations to this weapon finish, featuring gold/silver/bronze materials and cow leather/snake scales/marble/wood grips. The best decision for these types of ornaments is to make the grip less detailed than the main part of the gun, since it creates a nice contrast + you do not really see the grip in the game anyway. Revolver Memento is a good example of that and is by far my favourite revolver finish.
