As you might know, I live and breath historical strategy, and I have to say that when it comes to fun, tactical, and authentic-feeling battlefields of the ancient and medieval eras, very few compare with the depth of the Field of Glory series. This is a game and a series which focuses on depth and tactical ability, with every unit painstakingly brought to life through various aspects which mimic  their real life historical counterparts.

Field of Glory II, now including Swifter than Eagles, which takes the game all the way back to the first major civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia, is one of the most all-encompassing simulation strategy games out there. And if you haven't tried it yet, there's an entire world of tactical and strategic fun to discover - especially because you can complement this fun with Field of Glory Empires, which takes this tactical battlefield focused game onto a grand campaign map of the ancient world, including the Roman, Greek, and barbarian civilizations.
