Introduction
"Release" is how we refer to the 1.0 official Steam release version of the game, whose changes represented a great disappointment for everyone who loved the core game that its Alpha had.

Modding both versions is generally the same, but with a few differences.

  • At the time of creating this guide, Cube World Omega was only announced, not released, so this will work only with both previously mentioned versions.
[Release] How to install mods on Cube World

The first thing you need to do is download a file called "CubeModLoader.fip", you can find it here:

You need to paste that file inside the game's main folder, which can be easily found by doing right click on the game on your Steam library, then manage and browse local files.

Now everytime you open the game (via Steam or .exe) you'll see this message:

And now you're supposed to have a folder called "Mods" on the main game's directory, if not, create it.

That's where you should put your mods, you can find them on NexusMods or CWMods.

But wait! Sometimes you'll get an error message that says "Mods\modname.dll has major version 5 but requires 7. The mod author needs to update this mod to CWSDK 7.X", it might be because of a compatibility problem with any of the mods, the Mod Loader or the game's current version.

I can't give you a precise solution, but you can try this:

  • Download a previous version of the Cube World Mod Launcher (here[github.com]).
  • Install a modpack, which generally contains a CubeModLoader.fip already compatible with the mods.
[Release] Mods for Cube World
As previously stated, you can find mods on CW's page on NexusMods[www.nexusmods.com] or CWMods[www.cwmods.com].

Download at your own risk, I'm not responsible if you f*ck up your PC or something.

List of popular mods

Also the popular "Cubemod" (link[github.com]) that adds item/enemy scaling, useful artifact stats, modified item spawn rates, and pvp.

And finally, "CWTool" (link[github.com]).

Modpacks

Most modpacks are just a compilation of the previously listed mod (and a few others), but for compatibility's sake you'll may find these helpful. These modpacks were provided by YouTube user TimmyJTech.

Modpack+:

Contains Better Progression, Weapon XP, Bright Nights, Better Biomes, Chat Mod, Commands Mod and Lich Mod.

Official Cube World Modpack

This is obviously not official, it's just the name TimmyJTech gave to it.

[Alpha] How to play the Alpha version

As many players do, you might prefer to mod the original Cube World experience. But first you need to have it.

You can easily find an archived Alpha version of Cube World on the Internet Archive[archive.org],

JimmyJTech provided two links on this YouTube video that contain safe and already modded Alpha versions of the game.

If these links gets censored by Steam, go to my personal blog (dotvalin on Wordpress, link here[dotvalin.wordpress.com]) and find this same guide there (link here[dotvalin.wordpress.com]).

To play this version of Cube World you need to extract these files, get inside the main game's folder and double click on Cube.exe.

You can easily host a LAN server by using Server.exe, and with LogMeIn Hamachi (Or any other software of the same kind) you can create a private virtual network and share your user's IPv4 with your friends to play online.
[Alpha] How to mod install mods on 'Alpha' Cube World
First, you need to know that not every early version of Cube World works with mods. You'll need the latest Alpha version, the "Updated" one.

Now download this file.

It's the Cube World Mod Launcher again, but this time you won't download the latest versions. You need to go back and get the "Cube World Mod Launcher v1.5" from 2018 and extract it on your game's mail folder...

...or, if you're lost, you can try downloading it from the link provided by Reddit user ChrisMiuchiz on this post called "Cube World Essentials Modpack".

That link contains the Mod Launcher and a Mod folder with various mods already installed, it's really useful.

That modpack contains Adaptation Rebalance, Bad Item ID Crash Fix, Efficient Crafting, EXP Buff, Multiplayer Pet Leveling Fix, Name Overflow Fix, Stutter Fix and System Time Overflow Fix.

Now open CubeModLauncher and enjoy!

I played Alpha CW online with a friend last year. Honestly I don't remember the process but it must have been simple.
