Preface
All following methods assume that your computing is running on the Windows operating system. These methods may not translate well into Linux or Macintosh
Basic Methods
The following methods are very simple, do not require to open exterior programs and accomplish the task of closing the game quite efficiently

  • Pressing ESCAPE on the title screen (Tip!: It may be required to hit ESCAPE multiple times if you are not currently on the title screen)

  • Clicking the X in the corner of the windowed client, if you are not in windowed, you can simply leave fullscreen mode by pressing the 'F' key or by changing it in the in-game settings

  • Hovering the game on the task bar, and clicking the X on the preview window

  • Pressing the 'Alt' key and the 'F4' key simultaneously (Additional Information: This method is possibly obsolete on certain devices, as not all keyboards have the 'F[NUM]' keys, in which case I recommend buying a keyboard with these keys. Depending on where you live this might take a reasonable amount of time.) (Author's note: This method is especially cathartic after a death that feels unfair or after a particularily tilting blunder)
Advanced methods
The following section contains methods that involve an exterior program, involves convoluted steps or even matters completely out of your own hands. Due to the effort required being generally larger, this section will not necessarily help you much in most situations
  • Opening Task manager in order to close the program

  • Opening resource manager and closing the application

  • Inducing a game crash with resource manager
(Note: This method also provides the benefit/drawback of resetting your run to the last completed room when you leave the run, which will let you savescum a floor if you're under a time constraint or want to reverse a very stupid decision, this however does not work if you die at any point in the floor, even if you open the pause menu before the death screen appears)

  • Using Command Prompt to kill the application
(Easiest way to do so is to type 'taskkill /im isaac-ng.exe' but other options are available. Don't forget to press enter!)

  • Using Windows Powershell to kill the application
    (Same as above, just fancier)

  • Install a large amount of mods or at least two mods with game-breaking compatibility issues, the game will eventually close

  • Waiting for a random bit flip due to trace amounts of solar radiation

  • Shutting down your computer

  • Shutting down your computer, but cancelling before the 'Programs still open' resolve on their own
