** (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** On July 25, 2023, Officer Troy Atkins responded to a disturbance call outside of Houston, Texas. Officer Atkins arrived on scene and found a suspect, later identified as Trevor Hall, putting a bunch of gas cans in his basement. Officer Atkins continued investigation and asking Mr.Hall questions. Officer Atkins was then given permission to search the house by Mr.Hall. Officer Atkins saw blood on the basement wall and was told by Mr.Hall that he is a hunter and gets blood everywhere around the house. Officer Atkins told Mr.Hall to stay there while he looks around. Officer Atkins walked towards the blood stained wall and found there was a hidden room behind a bureau. He peaked in through a crack and saw a corpse, later identified as Mr.Hall's wife. Officer Atkins told Mr.Hall he needed to put his hands behind his back and to comply with the investigation. Mr.Hall refused and ran into the hall way and into a bedroom, where he retrieved a 9mm pistol. Officer Atkins gave chase and turned the corner and was immediately opened fired upon by Mr.Hall.

Officer Atkins dove behind a wall to retreat and realized he was hit immediately when he was fired upon. Officer Atkins returned fire and notified dispatch of the scene taking place. While during the shootout Mr.Hall shot one of his gas cans resulting in an explosion, knocking Officer Atkins into the wall. The explosion resulted in multiple fires starting throughout the house. When Officer Atkins was on his last magazine, the suspect turned the corner and that was when Officer Atkins was able to dump his entire mag into the suspect, resulting in the suspect to fall onto the ground and bleed out. As Officer Atkins retreated because of having no ammunition left and the fire getting to intense, that was when Mr.Hall fired a couple more rounds at Officer Atkins, missing completely.

The fire burned the house up resulting in Mr.Hall not being able to be rescued, an autopsy revealed that Mr.Hall died due to gun shot wounds, not the fire of the house. Officer Atkins was placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation of the shooting.
