This is a quick guide on how to change the keybinds for the 2004 version of Sid Meier's Pirates on PC. Perhaps you have a keyboard that lacks the numpad or just prefer to change the controls of your own volition - either way this should help considering the ingame options menu lacks this feature.

First we need to access the folder our game is installed to. This will be dependent on where you choose to install your games. I will show a shortcut way to find this folder via steam and gog galaxy but if you do not use either of these the path is typically something like;
(C:)>program files> (gamefolder)

Steam
Find the game in your library.
Right click on it and scroll down to "manage."
Click "browse local files."

GoG
Click the dropdown menu next to the play button.
Scroll down to "manage installation."
Click "show folder."

From here find the 'KeyMap.ini' file. It has the icon of a piece of paper with a little cogwheel. Right click and scroll down to 'open with' before choosing 'notepad.' From here you can rebind the controls to your choosing as they are laid out in a fairly self explanatory way. *DON'T FORGET TO SAVE THIS FILE AFTER YOU CHANGE THE KEYBINDS!*

Alternatively to these methods you can access the KeyMap.ini by path of;
This PC> Documents> My Games> Sid Meier's Pirates!

There is a known issue with Sid Meier's Pirates! game where it cannot be controlled from the numeric pad, especially on newer notebooks.

Here is a possible fix: a script for
AutoHotKey. Tested on Lenovo Legion Y740
