This method took me about 3 minutes but you can probably do it faster.

An even faster method?
While I don't intend for this to be a speedrun guide, I want to highlight this comment by ressu. I tried this method and it seems slightly faster than going towards the hedgehogs.

Bubble jump method (~7 minutes)
This method is slower and not what I would recommend if you're starting from a new save, but I'll keep it in here since it might still be useful to some people.


1. Start a new game and head straight for the Bubble Wand.
2. Head to the room that is directly above the egg room. Save the game along the way so you can try multiple times if needed.
3. Bubble jump upwards, get close to the ceiling, then bubble jump to the left until you're behind the squirrel.
4. Wait as the bubble descends. Do not press down to speed to bubble up, it'll scare off the squirrel.
5. Grab the nut when you get the prompt. If you're too far away, wait until you reach the ground, then gently tilt the control stick toward the squirrel. You should be able to move closer without scaring the squirrel.

Bubble jumping up and around the squirrel should work in other rooms as well provided that there's enough vertical space.

I use a Nintendo Switch Pro controller but I wouldn't recommend getting one unless you have a Switch. Xbox and Playstation controllers are good but anything with a joystick will do.

ahh damn i should get my hands on a controller then i guess. tap method didn't work. what kind of controller are you using?

I did that on a controller so I'm not sure how to do it on keyboard. You might be able to do it by tapping the button so you move a very short distance at a time, but I haven't tested it.

Can I get a nut after beating the game, the squirrel ran away in the very last room, would you like to save the game or should I start the game again?

I did it by flipping the switch at the entrance to the Disc Room, going two screens down, entering the secret passage at the left wall and then sneaking to the right, it was also pretty fast!

Thank you for the tip, I've added your comment to the guide as well.

Since my intention with the guide was just to showcase a reliable method to get the achievement, rather than the absolute fastest way possible, I probably won't be updating the guide after this. That being said, comments about other methods are still appreciated.

There is an even faster method. Instead of heading right to the hedgehogs, head up past the egg room and flip the switch, go down below the egg room and use the wall passage right below the egg room towards the bubbles. Once you emerge in the switch puzzle room head back the normal route towards egg room to catch the squirrel.
