By EpicGaming11195
Payday 2 was running at 20 FPS on Arch, this is how I fixed it.

This guide is based on my personal experience alone. Your mileage may vary.
The guide
I recently installed Payday 2 on Arch Linux, and it ran at around 20 FPS with the lowest graphics settings on a system that I knew was capable of running the game at significantly faster speeds than that. I looked up if anyone had had this problem before, and one person said they heard that using Proton is better than using the native Linux version of the game. So I selected "Proton Experimental" in the Compatibility settings, waited for the game to reinstall, and it now consistently runs at well over 100 FPS.

The setting I changed
Properties > Compatibility > Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool > Proton Experimental
Conclusion

Thanks for reading, and as always, keep those helmets flying!

unless nvidia support for wayland changed in the last 6 months, that would explain the terrible performance
