This video shows the importance of getting in cover quick, before your enemy.

Below my TIPS:

-Try always to reach the area of combat with your stamina bar full, in a way that as soon as you spot the enemy you can rush behind the best covers available, before your enemy does
Stamina in BoE is very important, keep an eye on it.

-Remember that by double clicking your troops will never return fire untill they reach their destination.

-If you are even just a bit late in reaching a cover compared to your opponent, like in this video, then the best you can do is to stop there in place, go prone and start firing, your enemy will win the firefight but this is still better than trying to reach the cover late at all costs.
if you have grenades then go prone and throw them behind the cover, in this way you can even win the firefight, throw them nades and while the enemy jump away you rush behind that cover and finish them off.

-If you are late in reaching an important cover but you are far enough from it, then just try to disengage, you can't win a 1vs1 vs a squad of your same level but behind cover, try instead to find good pos on the flanks of the enemy squad, outflank your enemy whenever is possible.
