LDTK (Level Designer Toolkit) - another level builder which is quite nice. It was used to create Dead Cells levels.

paint.net is still really good but i also use clickteam's built in drawing system because it works well for me

Call me old, but I still use good ol' MS Paint to draw almost everything still.
I did buy Aesprite but maybe put 15 minutes into it grand total.

For sound effects though yeah BFXR all the way.

Krita is amazing, can be set up for several different types of work, including pixel art. Making your own palettes is a nice touch. It's not just for fancy art.

www.photopea.com is a free online image editor, similar to Photoshop. It's pretty awesome.

Gimp is horrible though. This is why there is no good alternative to Photoshop. Maybe Adobe supports it :papyrus:

Aseprite is open source you can compile it yourself, or buy it on steam. Its an amazing pixel art editor.
For making music, You can use Ableton free trial it expires every 90 days but you can make a new account
