First Stage: Getting Started
So, you want to own a virtual copy of one of the most iconic drift machines in car culture history?

Lucky for you, all your tofu-delivering hopes and eurobeat-memeing dreams will come true. This guide will fully cover how and where to obtain the car, customizing it to closely match its anime counterpart (both in aesthetic design & performance), and teach you how to dominate Los Santos' corners, downhill streets & hairpin turns.
Second Stage: Obtaining The Karin Futo
The Karin Futo is the GTA equivalent of the Eight-Six Levin, however it lacks the hatchback rear-end. The Blista Compact has a hatchback, but is more closely related to the Honda CR-X; please don't get that.

The Futo is NOT available for purchase in southernsanandreassuperautos.com; the only way to find it is its spawn locations throughout the city. Now, these locations won't 100% guarantee a Futo spawning there, so always try switching between a couple of sessions if all else fails.

None of this section is relevant anymore as the Futo is now purchasable. Thanks Rockstar ;,)

Terminal / Buccaneer Way

Most players generally find a Futo around here without failure, so probably try here first. Several parking lots cover the west side of this area.

Los Santos Customs (Burton)

The short but sweet lot just outside of the Burton LSC has a slim chance of spawning various rare/pre-modded vehicles, including the Futo.

Paleto Bay

Heading up north ain't easy, but I wouldn't say it isn't worth the trouble checking around this lot nearby the mod shop. Generally spawns Sports-related vehicles.

Little Seoul

Recommended by a fellow commenter, another area in Los Santos with a high chance to spawn a handful of Futos here and there. Thanks, OG∑Я!
Third Stage: Customization
Congratulations! Hopefully you've found yourself a dainty little driftster; now the real fun begins. Here's a list of all the upgrades that come authentically close to Takumi's Eight-Six.

NOTE: Some upgrades may not be available to you depending on your in-game rank.

  • ENGINE & TRANSMISSION - Maxed Out
  • TURBO TUNING - No
  • BRAKES - Stock
  • SUSPENSION - Optional (I Currently Use Street)

  • GRILLE - Stock (Logo)
  • HOOD - Carbon
  • SPOILER - Stock | OPTIONAL - Lip (Adds Traction)
  • EXHAUST - Stock | OPTIONAL - Tuner (For big pew pews)
  • SKIRTS - Stock

  • TIRES - Stock | OPTIONAL - Bulletproof

Fourth Stage: Customization (Detailed)
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Maxing out these two is highly recommended. If you haven't unlocked them then purchase the most powerful available.

TURBO TUNING
Takumi doesn't use a turbo-tuned Eight-Six, so for accuracy purposes, don't buy this... unless you want to be this guy:
Wataru Akiyama

BRAKES
You usually want to keep the brakes stock if you want a car that can drift well. I'd suggest stock, unless you have a preference for it.

SUSPENSION
Choosing what suspension you want to use will have an affect on your steering. Try test-driving with all of them to decide which you feel comfortable with. For example, I use street suspension; it's not too friction-y, not too slippery, it's just right for me.

FRONT & REAR BUMPERS
For this category, stock is the way to go. The other bumpers just don't fit well with the car's genuine form and hang too low.

GRILLE
Stoooooock.

HOOD
This one's honestly up to you. If you want to go for First Stage design, stick with the stock hood. If you like the reborn Eight-Six and its carbon-fiber hood, then use the carbon one.

SPOILER
Again, up to you. Unless you found a Futo GT around the street (with its stock carbon-fiber lip spoiler), you could stick with none. However, adding a lip spoiler not only adds flair, but also a teeny tiny smidge of traction to your car.

EXHAUST
Stock is how it normally looks on a plain ol' Eight-Six, but if you want flames bursting out of it every time you handbrake, then that's your call.

SKIRTS
Stockity-stock. Hangs too low.

HEADLIGHTS
Since this car was supposedly based off of the 1983 AE86 Levin[en.wikipedia.org], sticking with its default, incandescent headlights is recommended.

ROLL CAGE/CHASSIS UPGRADE
Totally optional, with some added consequences. Choosing not to use a roll cage maintains your speedy goodness and makes your interior look nice. Using one, however, is semi-visible if you drive in first-person like the cool kid you are.

(No Roll Cage) (Yes Roll Cage)

WINDOWS
In most scenes in the anime, every CGI car animation generally doesn't let you see the driver from its dark windows (probably easier to animate). Light Tint looks good and retains those black borders' visibility around the rear-sided windows.

WHEELS
This one is really up to your taste. The stock wheels are pretty accurate and include a chrome lip around it. Under the subsection "Tuners", you can find two strikingly similar rims, Washed Eight and Fujiwara. The trait that differentiates the two is the Washed Eight's chrome lip near the tires. Fujiwara wheels have that lip as the same color of the full wheel.

Stock Wheels Washed Eight Wheels Fujiwara Wheels

TIRES
Keep it regular tires, nothing fancy. Contrary to what most players say, bulletproof tires don't add any traction or weight to the car at all; buy that if it's available to you unless you enjoy bullet holes through 'em.

COLORS
They don't call it the Panda Trueno for nothing. Choose a classic Ice White for its primary color. Secondary color should obviously be black, but the Futo's paint job doesn't have that extra stripe of black like a regular Eight-Six has. Using a Matte Black color contrasts with the black stripe on the sides, giving it kind of a black stripe when you shine it.

Fifth Stage: The Results

Give yourself a pat of the back because you've finally completed the AE86 build! Your final product should look a little something like the one above.

However, your journey isn't complete! There is one last thing you need...

Thank you for this guide! It's really helpful.

Tip: If you want to be super accurate/ have a lot of detail you can glitch the spoiler away.
You have to swap between none and an aftermarket spoiler and of you land on the none tab again, with a it of luck, the spoiler should be completly gone. It worked for me and I love it (had to sadly give up traction though... oh well)

Thank you for this amazing guide :)
