Certificate authority
A certificate authority (CA) is generally a trusted third party, such as VeriSign, Inc. or Symantec Corporation, that verifies the identity of computers on a network and issues certificates. The validity of a certificate is verified electronically using the public key infrastructure (PKI). Certificates consist of your public key, the identity of the organization, the CA that signed your certificate, and other data that may be associated with your identity.
