Manage PDFs and scanned documents in Notes on Mac
In the Notes app on your Mac, you can add PDFs or scanned documents to a note, then view, crop, apply filters, rotate and rename them.
Crop a PDF or scanned document
You can crop a PDF or scanned document to focus in on a specific area or eliminate unwanted parts of the document.
Go to the Notes app on your Mac.
Open the note with the PDF or scanned document you want to change.
Click next to the name of the PDF or scanned document, then choose Markup.
If you don’t see , Control-click the PDF or scanned document, click View As, choose Medium or Large, then try again.
Click , then drag the adjustment handles to enclose the area you want to keep.
When you’ve finished making changes, do one of the following:
Save your changes: Click Done.
Stop cropping without saving your changes: Press Escape (Esc) or click Cancel.
Apply a filter to a scanned document
You can give your scanned document a special look by using one of four filters.
Go to the Notes app on your Mac.
Open the note with the scanned document you want to change.
Click Show Thumbnails next to the name of the scanned document.
Control-click a thumbnail, then choose Filters.
Click the filter you want (or use the Touch Bar).
Rotate a PDF or scanned document
You can manually rotate a PDF or scanned document so that it’s oriented the way you want.
Go to the Notes app on your Mac.
Open the note with the PDF or scanned document you want to change.
Click Show Thumbnails next to the name of the PDF or scanned document.
Control-click a thumbnail, then choose Rotate Left or Rotate Right (or use the Touch Bar).
Rename a PDF or scanned document
By default, a scanned document is automatically named — for example, Scanned Documents — and a PDF has the same name as the original file. You can rename either type of attachment.
Go to the Notes app on your Mac.
Open the note with the PDF or scanned document you want to change.
Select the PDF or scanned document in your note, then choose Edit > Rename Attachment.
Type the new name, then click Save.
