  • Margaret Roberts joined InterHealth Canada - TCI Hospital in 2014 as a Patient Services Associate. In 2018, she applied for an internal Pharmacy Assistant position and successfully transitioned into the Pharmacy Department. During her time within the pharmacy department Margaret underwent several professional development opportunities inclusive of funding of the courses and examinations needed for her to sit American based board examinations. After completing the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board in the US in 2022, she became a certified Pharmacy Technician. She was then promoted to her current role which is a testament to her transformational professional growth and competence. Margaret's journey to becoming a pharmacy technician was fuelled by her deep passion for helping others and a genuine interest in healthcare. She feels drawn to the opportunity to support patients in managing their medications and ensuring their safety while closely collaborating with the pharmacist to enhance the quality of care. The blend of technical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the chance to positively impact people's lives solidified her decision to pursue this fulfilling career. Her dedication and commitment to the pharmacy profession are unwavering, making her a valuable asset to the Turks & Caicos Islands Hospital team. Recently, Margaret completed a comprehensive certification program with the National Pharmacy Technician Association in Houston, Texas, where she gained specialized qualifications in hazardous, non-sterile, and sterile compounding. This certification marks a significant milestone in her pharmacy career, further enhancing her skills and expanding her professional capabilities. With this advanced training, she is now qualified to prepare chemotherapy medications. Margaret is the second Turks & Caicos Islander who has been certified under InterHealth Canada in this field. Regarding her achievements, Margaret said, "This certification not only deepens my expertise but also positions me for more specialized roles in pharmacy, particularly in environments where precision and safety are critical, such as oncology. My daily motivation to strive for excellence comes from my deep love and commitment to my kids and family. They are my biggest inspiration and driving force, pushing me to be the best version of myself in everything I do. Knowing that my hard work and dedication contribute to providing them with a better life, stability, and opportunities fuels my determination. Every achievement, big or small, is not just for me, but for them, and it's their smiles, support, and belief in me keep me going, always aiming to exceed expectations." • September is Childhood Obesity Month, a time to reflect on the importance of healthy eating habits among children. One key aspect of promoting a balanced diet is portion control. Teaching children about appropriate serving sizes can help them develop a better understanding of their hunger cues and make healthier choices. Encouraging kids to use smaller plates, bowls, and utensils can help them avoid oversized portions that often lead to overeating. Additionally, involving children in meal preparation can make them more aware of what goes into their meals and how much they should consume. By fostering an environment that emphasizes reasonable portion sizes, we equip our children with the tools to maintain a healthy weight and enjoy nutritious foods. Remember, small changes can lead to lifelong habits that support better health and wellbeing! #InterHealthCanada #TCIHospital #ChildhoodObesity #Nutritition
