Thai Union Group recently participated in the 12th annual World Ocean Summit & Expo in Tokyo, an event that brings together leaders from business, finance, government, policymaking, civil society, and academia. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba addressed the summit, which is hosted by Economist Impact and is focused on accelerating the transition to a sustainable ocean economy and meeting the 2030 targets of UN SDG 14. Our Chief Sustainability Officer, Adam Brennan joined a panel titled “Blue food: Can the seafood industry ‘protect, produce and prosper’ in a warming ocean?”, addressing how increased seafood demand can be balanced with the urgent need to restore ocean health. During the discussion, Adam emphasized Thai Union’s commitment to traceability, responsible sourcing, and collaborative efforts to tackle illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, climate change, and other pressures on both aquaculture and wild-catch fisheries, as part of the company’s global sustainability strategy, SeaChange® 2030. He emphasized our partnership with The Nature Conservancy and the important role electronic monitoring plays in getting #eyesontuna, as well as, our efforts with Sustainable Fisheries Partnership to protect endangered, threatened and protected species. Thai Union remains committed to working with diverse stakeholders to drive positive change in the seafood industry and advance a healthier future for our oceans. #ThaiUnion #SeaChange2030 #HealthyLivingHealthyOceans #WorldOceanSummit #TheEconomist
