Actor-politician
Jaya Bachchan and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar had another tense exchange on Friday when the Vice President addressed her as 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan' while inviting her to speak during a debate in the Rajya Sabha.
During her address in the Upper House on Friday, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan strongly objected to the 'unacceptable' tone used by Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar when speaking to her.
She went on to demand an apology from him.
In the video, Bachchan can be heard saying, "I am an artist. I understand body language and expressions. But your tone is not right. We are your colleagues, but your tone is unacceptable."
In response, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar reminded Jaya Bachchan of the importance of maintaining decorum, regardless of her celebrity status. He emphasized that while she has earned a great reputation, she must adhere to the standards of conduct in the House.
Addressing her objections to his tone, Dhankhar remarked, "Jaya ji, you have earned a great reputation. You know an actor is subject to the director. But every day, I do not want to repeat myself. Every day, I don't want to do schooling. You are talking about my tone? Enough of it. You may be anybody. You have to understand the decorum. You can be a celebrity but accept decorum."
Recently, Jaya Bachchan expressed her discomfort with being referred to by her husband Amitabh Bachchan's name as part of her own, asserting that every woman has her own identity.
When Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh addressed her as 'Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan ji,' she responded, "Sir, sirf Jaya Bachchan bolte to kaafi hojata" (It would’ve been enough to call me Jaya Bachchan). Harivansh then clarified that her name was officially registered in that manner.
