Mohanlal elaborated, "The story is based on a Portuguese myth. Cochin was under Portuguese rule for over 120 years, and the events of Barroz unfold in Goa." The actor further explained that during that period, Goa was treasured by the Portuguese more than Lisbon. "At a certain time, a special wind would blow. If sailors set sail during that moment, they would reach this place " he shared, adding that the Portuguese began settling in the region, amassing vast riches, including looted treasures.
However, their time in Goa faced a turning point when the Maratha Empire launched an attack, forcing the Portuguese to flee. Mohanlal revealed, "They couldn’t carry all their treasures, so they performed African Voodoo magic, sacrificing one of their slaves to protect the treasure. This slave became a ghost, bound to guard the treasure."
Mohanlal will be portraying 'Barroz', the ghost tasked with guarding the riches. With his first directorial venture, the actor aims to create an engaging fantasy film steeped in history and folklore.
Movie buffs are eagerly waiting for a confirmed release date of the film.
