Coldplay set social media ablaze following their concert in Ahmedabad, which marked the conclusion of their India tour. The English band’s lead vocalist, Chris Martin, drew widespread attention with a humorous remark, declaring Coldplay as an “Indian band” and attributing fictional Indian origins to all the band members. Now, actor Vijay Deverakonda has reacted to Chris’s remark about Telangana.

A viral video from the performance featured Martin’s witty commentary. “We’ve been brothers now for 29 years. It’s the most amazing thing to be part of. What most of you don’t know is that all four of us were born in India, so we’re already an Indian band,” he jested, sparking cheers and laughter from the audience.
Expounding on the playful concept, Martin pointed at bassist Guy Berryman and teased, “He looks like he’s from Scotland, but he’s not. He is from Tamil Nadu.” Moving to drummer Will Champion, Martin added, “In many ways, the leader of our band, the person who keeps us together, the lovely, incredibly bright, beautiful, and scary Will Champion, is 100 percent Gujarati, all the way from Ahmedabad.” Finally, Martin claimed Telangana as his own, further cementing their “Indian” band identity.
The light-hearted comments struck a chord with fans, including actor Vijay Deverakonda. He shared the viral video on Instagram with the caption, “Chris Martin, welcome! Someone needs to make a Podusthunna Poddumeeda X Coldplay mashup.”
“Podustunna Poddumeeda” is a song from the film “Jai Bolo Telangana,” a movie based on the Telangana statehood movement. The track, penned and performed by the late Gummadi Vittal Rao, popularly known as Gaddar, holds significant cultural resonance in Telangana. It was composed by the late Chakri and remains a powerful emblem of the movement.
On the work front, Vijay Deverakonda recently made a cameo appearance in the Prabhas starrer 'Kalki 298 AD' and it gained a lot of positive reviews from fans and critics alike. He is busy working on his next movie, tentatively titled 'VD12'. Directed by 'Jersey' fame Gowtam Tinnanuri, the action movie is speculated to be postponed beyond its previously anticipated release date of March 28. The movie is also highly speculated to feature Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead.
In addition to 'VD12', Vijay is also working on 'VD14', directed by Rahul Sankrityan, which has officially begun production. This film is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025. Furthermore, he will star in 'SVC59', directed by Ravi Kiran Kola, which is set to hit theaters on December 25, 2025.
