NEW DELHI: The cabinet decision to set up eighth pay commission came in a fortnight marked with several key decisions and launch of schemes by PM Narendra Modi who has billed 2025 to be a year of big decisions.
The hectic first fortnight of the year in the build up to Budget has seen commissioning of three indigenously built naval combatants, Namo Bharat trains from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh, opening of Sonamarg tunnel in J&K, and launch of a bulk drug park and green hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh.

Govt sources said Thursday that the list is a precursor to what is going to be an action-filled year, with the PM set to take decisions to boost growth and expand welfare initiatives. "Together, we are shaping a developed India, where every citizen will play a vital role in building a brighter tomorrow," the PM said.
Officials said the year began with a focus on welfare of farmers during the first cabinet meeting in which it approved extension of a one-time special package for di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), ensuring affordable fertiliser prices for farmers.
On Saturday, Modi will distribute 65 lakh property cards in 50,000 villages under Swamitva Scheme, a programme aimed at providing record of rights to villagers.
