Vinesh Phogat, the former Indian wrestler who came back from the Paris Olympics heartbroken after being disqualified, joined the Congress party soon after her return to make her debut in politics.
She has filed her nomination for the upcoming Haryana Legislative Assembly Elections and will be contesting from Julana Constituency in Jind.
According to the declaration of income and assets made by her in the affidavit while filing nomination papers, the multiple Commonwealth Games gold medallist mentioned that she owns three four-wheelers and is repaying a loan taken against one of those vehicles.
(Agency Photo)Vinesh has a Volvo XC 60, which is valued at Rs 35 lakh, Hyundai Creta (Rs 12 lakh) and Toyota Innova (17 lakh). She is repaying a loan of Rs 13 lakh she took to buy Innova.
Her husband, Somvir Rathee, owns a Mahindra Scorpio valued at Rs 19 lakh.
Vinesh's immovable property, which includes a plot in Sonipat, is valued at Rs 2 crore.
The declaration also mentions that Vinesh showed an income of Rs 13,85,000 in her IT return for the last financial year.
Vinesh's decision to enter politics was triggered by her disqualification in the Paris Games after she had reached the women's freestyle 50kg final and recently claimed that she found no support in her fight.
On the day of her second weigh-in during the Olympics, she was found to be 100gm overweight and was thus eliminated from the competition. Her appeal with the Court of Arbitration of Sport for a joint silver medal was also dismissed.
She went on to claim in her latest interview that she found little support from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in Paris and lashed out at IOA president Usha for playing politics. Vinesh alleged that Usha got herself clicked in a picture with Vinesh at the hospital without telling her and then put it up on social media as a show of solidarity.
