AEW star Mercedes Mone has earned her spot at the top thanks to her impressive in-ring performances over the years. She has now come under the radar of WWE Hall of Famer and an influential figure in the wrestling world Eric Bischoff. In a recent episode of his podcast "83 Weeks," Bischoff commented on Mone being on the same level as Bill Goldberg in terms of being among the biggest workers in the industry.
However, it must be noted that his use of the term ‘worker’ might be more nuanced than it seems.
Bischoff talks about Mone and Goldberg being the best ‘workers’
Bischoff cites WWE legend Hulk Hogan to set his definition of what it means to be a good worker in the business like Goldberg and Mercedes Mone. According to Hogan, the best worker is the one who is bringing in the most money, a sentiment which might come off as rude as pointed out by Bischoff. He stated, "Hulk Hogan told me once, and when he said it, it kinda rubbed me the wrong way, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it was true."
Bischoff then mentions Goldberg as someone who falls under this category. He says, "And by that standard, Bill Goldberg was the best worker in the business, he made a lot more money! As I've mentioned a few moments ago, a year and a half before his contract was even set to expire, he forced a renegotiation. Because he was the best worker in the business at the time." Bischoff alludes to other prominent examples like Mercedes Mone and Will Ospreay, who he believes are on the same level as Goldberg when it comes to being a good moneymaker. "Mercedes, for sure, without question: the best worker in the business — of the women, anyway. So yeah, it all depends on your perspective, doesn't it?"
The comment makes sense when we realize that both these performers have bagged pretty high-profile deals with the AEW and are easily one of the most recognized faces today in the industry.
