TV is here to stay, says Rohit Bakshi
After almost a year, Rohit Bakshi is returning to Anupama and is happy to be back on the show. He says, “I’ll be seen only in a few episodes, but I’m glad to be on the set again.” Rohit, who has been a part of the TV industry for over two decades now, having acted in shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, feels that despite competition from OTT, TV will continue to remain a popular medium.
“At one point, when OTT was booming, people had started discussing television’s future. But clearly, TV is here to stay; it has its own set of audience.”
While some may complain that most TV shows have similar storylines, Rohit explains, “Yes, some storylines are similar, but the problem is that it’s not easy to experiment in our industry. Some producers have attempted to make different kinds of shows, but eventually, it is all about ratings. And hence, they’re forced to come back to the same old stories that worked in the past.”
On trying his luck in Bollywood...
In 2013, Rohit made his Bollywood debut with the film Dehraadun Diary, after which he worked in a few others, but they did not release. Talking about that phase, he says, “After Dehraadun Diary, I did four movies which were never released. It was a difficult phase, but I didn’t want to just sit and sulk, so I got back to TV. I’ve always been a person who believes in moving on and working hard, rather than dwelling on something that hasn’t worked out. I just want to do good work, the medium doesn’t matter.”
