Kate Middleton and Prince William once broke-up during a 30-minute phone call during their dating phase in 2007. In his new biography, "Catherine, The Princess of Wales," author Robert Jobson delves into the royal couple's relationship and the challenges they faced before eventually tying the knot in 2011.
After graduating from the University, Prince William and Kate had a steady relationship, with William visiting Kate every Friday during his military training at Sandhurst.
However, despite signs of a serious relationship, Prince William decided to end things over the New Year in 2007, leaving Kate devastated.
In his biography, Robert Jobson provides insights into the couple's romance and the obstacles they faced. After their graduation in 2005, Prince William, now 42, and Kate, also 42, maintained a committed relationship, with William regularly visiting Kate at her family home. Kate was also invited to Prince William's military graduation in December 2006. Despite media speculation and the nickname "Waity Katie," pressure for an engagement did not materialize immediately.
"Despite media attention on the topic and receiving the nickname 'Waity Katie,' Catherine knew William wasn't in any hurry to propose, and the truth is she was prepared to wait until he was ready. After all, they were in love — weren't they?" Jobson writes, according to an excerpt published by The Daily Mail.
Although Kate was prepared to wait for a proposal, William unexpectedly ended their relationship over the phone in 2007, stating they needed "a bit of space" and that he couldn't promise an engagement. The 30-minute conversation left Kate devastated and feeling let down, reported People Magazine. "In an emotionally charged 30-minute conversation, they both acknowledged they were on 'different pages,'" according to Jobson's book. "It was a devastating blow to Catherine, who felt doubly let down at being dumped over the phone."

While William celebrated the split at a London nightclub, Kate sought solace in a trip to Dublin with her mother and a vacation in Ibiza with a friend. Upon returning to London, she and her sister Pippa were frequently seen leaving clubs, with photos reaching the press for William to see.
The couple eventually reconciled at a costume party, where William, having second thoughts, approached Kate, and they spent the evening talking and dancing before sharing a kiss. Their relationship progressed from there, leading to their engagement in 2010 and marriage the following year.
During their engagement interview, the couple briefly discussed their break, with William acknowledging their youth and the need for personal growth, while Kate admitted that although initially unhappy, the experience made her stronger and more self-aware.
Now, as the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate are parents to three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Meanwhile, in his book, Jobson also highlights Kate's role as a calming influence within the royal family, helping to improve the relationship between William and his father.
