Are birds really the nuisance alarms we've made them out to be in our detection systems? Or is it really just a lack of accuracy in legacy radars and cameras that were unable to distinguish between birds and drones and other targets of interest that new tech makes possible. I recently read this quote, and thought it was perhaps a little short sighted. "The goal is to detect one or more drones appearing at some time point in video sequences where birds and other distractor objects may be also present, together with motion in background or foreground. Algorithms should raise an alarm and provide a position estimate only when a drone is present, while not issuing alarms on birds, nor being confused by the rest of the scene." Looking forward to hearing from Kyle Meloney with Walaris who developed optical-based detection, acquisition, classification, and tracking as a key partner with Echodyne radars. Discussion Points: - Who cares about detecting birds anyway?
