🌍OR Seminars: Impact of Fuel Consumption on Airline Planning and Sustainability✈️ We are delighted to continue the Operations Research Seminar Series with our second event, titled "Impact of Fuel Consumption on Airline Planning and Sustainability." The seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. M. Selim Aktürk from Bilkent University, a distinguished expert in Production Management Systems and Airline Disruption Management. The session explored how fuel consumption plays a critical role in airline operations, influencing both cost efficiency and environmental sustainability. Prof. Aktürk shared advanced optimization techniques for disruption management, including the integration of cruise speed adjustments into recovery strategies to enhance both cost control and emission reductions. The discussion also covered strategic airline network expansion and the optimal aircraft leasing decisions to align fleet capacity with increasing demand while ensuring fuel efficiency, carbon emissions control, and reduced airport congestion. We extend our sincere gratitude to Prof. Aktürk for his insightful presentation and look forward to welcoming distinguished speakers to discuss optimization, aviation operations, and sustainability in the upcoming OR Seminar Series. -- 🌍Yöneylem Araştırmaları Seminerleri: Yakıt Tüketiminin Havayolu Planlaması ve Sürdürülebilirlik Üzerindeki Etkisi ✈️ Yöneylem Araştırmaları Seminer Serimizin ikinci etkinliğinde, "Yakıt Tüketiminin Havayolu Planlaması ve Sürdürülebilirlik Üzerindeki Etkisi" üzerine kapsamlı bir değerlendirme yaptık. Bu seminerimizde, Üretim Yönetim Sistemleri ve Havayolu Aksaklık Yönetimi konularında akademik çalışmalar yürüten Prof. Dr. M. Selim Aktürk bizlerleydi. Seminerde, yakıt tüketiminin havayolu operasyonları üzerindeki kritik rolü ve bunun maliyet verimliliği ile çevresel sürdürülebilirliğe etkileri detaylıca ele alındı. Prof. Aktürk, aksaklık yönetimi için geliştirdikleri ileri optimizasyon modellerini paylaşarak, seyir hızı ayarlamalarının operasyonel iyileştirme stratejilerine nasıl entegre edilebileceğini ve bunun hem maliyetleri düşürme hem de emisyonları azaltma açısından nasıl fayda sağladığını anlattı. Bunun yanı sıra, havayolu ağlarının stratejik genişleme planları ve uçak kiralama kararlarının optimizasyonu gibi konular da tartışıldı. Artan taleple birlikte filo kapasitesinin daha verimli yönetilmesi, yakıt tüketiminin en aza indirilmesi, karbon emisyonlarının kontrol altında tutulması ve havaalanı yoğunluğunun azaltılması üzerine önemli bilgiler paylaşıldı.
