AMERICAN AUTO (NBC)
Ended: April 18, 2023 (after two seasons)
What Would Have Happened in Season 3: Just days after NBC hit the brakes on the Ana Gasteyer-led workplace comedy, series creator Justin Spitzer shared on Twitter that Season 3″ was going to show Katherine Hastings and Payne Motors finally finding success and taking the world by storm.”
In the Season 2/series finale, Gasteyer’s Katherine scored an unexpected win with sales of the unimpressive Pika car, allowing her and her team to keep their jobs. In the wake of that, “she can start meeting the company in the way she wants to meet it,” Spitzer told TVLine during a post mortem interview. “She can start making her mark, and she can start being more active and less reactive.”
Please find out what would have happened next, of the 1 and only season of The Finder (Bones spin-off). I’ve wanted to know so bad and hoped Bones might address it?
Agreed, I always hoped Bones would tie that up as well.
I also would love to know how things would’ve played out. It was a great show.
I loved The Finder! I was so sad when it was cancelled, but I am glad they never had to address Michael Clarke Duncan’s death so I can imagine him in paradise.
I’m so glad Castle was cancelled before it became even more of a train wreck. It was by far my favorite show for years, but it was hard to watch the last season. I can’t imagine what they were thinking with that plan.
Couldn’t agree more!
Absolutely agree. Perhaps with Kate gone, the storyline could have focused on Rick, Alexis, and Haley. I liked their chemistry a lot.
I just rewatched season 8 of Castle, and it wasn’t as bad as I remembered it at the time I watched it the first time, lol. I think the bitterness of how it ended clouded my judgement. I actually quite enjoyed it to be honest. Except how it ended. There was some great acting in the season 8/series finale, but didn’t need that stupid Caleb coming back and shooting them scene. Without that, it would have been a passable series finale because everything was wrapped up until that scene.
Every time I read the next season’s plans for Castle, I wonder what they were thinking. Terrible, terrible idea.
Still mad at ABC for canceling Baker & The Beauty, Forever, and especially Stumptown
I loved Forever and Stumptown as well.
Same!
At least you can blame ‘Stumptown’ being canceled due to COVID interruptions?
Why Women Kill? The scripts for Season 3 were ready, it was canceled 4 days before they started filming. Crazy how no publication asked the right questions.
Why Women Kill was such an underrated show! So bummed it only got two seasons!
Thx, TVLINE…I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane! 🙂
Idk if I should say thx, but so so so many shows I wished would have been renewed. Constantine, Containment, Debris … (mostly shows that got cancelled before their second season). Sad sad sad memories from those cancellations
‘Debris’ should have been given a probationary second season-whether on NBC or Peacock.
I still really miss “Forever” and wish that had continued for… if not forever, then at least one more season. And while I never watched the original run of “Dallas” back in the day, I did enjoy the revival and was bummed when it was cancelled.
Hey TVLINE,
What about Deputy???
Thanks for this!
I really liked that show!
I still miss the Witches of East End!
Oof, still miss and think about Forever and Witches of East End, thank youuuu
Man I would still love a Kyle XY movie to see what they are all up to now.
Too bad Stumptown wasn’t added to this list. Man! I really wish that show would have come back. Season 2 probably would’ve been amazeballs.
I’m not so sure, I liked it as it was and supposedly one of the reasons for the cancellation was a “creative reboot” that the network didn’t like the direction of.
On the Resident if emily didn’t leave the show I think it would have lasted another season. And the way they put this last season together. Because it was a possibility that they were gonna be canceled, It was just thrown. together. Putting Billie and Conrad together, pissed me off so bad, why would you put him in cage together when you was gonna break them up In the next couple’s episodes, it shouldn’t have never been a time jump. Cause that threw everything off. I only really watch bits and pieces of the Last season because It made me so mad every episode that aired. That show was so good in the beginning. But when Emily Van camp left, it just went downhill.
The Resident was hurt by Disney buying the FOX studios that produced it and 9-1-1, but FOX network remaining separate (since they already owned ABC and couldn’t have two broadcast ones for monopoly reasons). I don’t think any cast changes would have helped the way FOX wanted to cut costs; same reason they got rid of original 9-1-1. And unfortunately when it came to medical shows and already having Grey’s and The Good Doctor, as well as Station 19 for a rescue show, ABC didn’t see a place to also bring Resident over.
What? The only one I REALLY miss was Debris? Incredible!
It started kind of slow but ended up being so good. I think the slow start hurt it though.

Absolutely loved Happy Endings. Wish they could revive it especially since Zach is no longer working on Magnum PI.
Unfortunately Damon Wayans Jr. is now in a new midseason comedy for CBS, Poppa’s House with his actual dad, so cast scheduling issues might continue to be a problem. But I would love to see Happy Endings come back as well.
Still a bitterness about how they treated the Castle Fans.
I’m glad they ended it the way they did, it was a bit rushed but this show without the female lead/leads would have been a disaster. I don’t know what Stanik and Tamara did to have basically been banned from the show but without them I wouldn’t have watched anyway.
More like couldn’t have been paid enough to come back.
I don’t know any info regarding Tamara’s circumstance, but reportedly Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic intensely disliked each other by the end of season four and on. The decision to get rid of Katic after season eight was likely a matter of losing Fillion otherwise.
I was surprised to learn that they were getting rid of Tamala (not Tamara) Jones. I think one of the guys was going to be recurring rather than contract, but I can’t remember if it was Huertas or Deaver.
How could you guys leave The Mick out of this list?
Good list, otherwise.
Right? This was a great show!
Scorpion info, please!! Obviously, this was a feel good show, so I’m confident all would have worked out at the garage. It still would be nice to know all the little bits and pieces.
I never understood why they ended this one. The only thing that bothered me during the show was the breakup of the team. It was unnecessary and for me anyway, it was the beginning of the end. After that everything seemed forced.
Scorpion was the one I was really hoping to see on this list! I still can’t stand that ending! I really believe they thought they would be back. That’s why I really appreciate when shows know before the final season that it will be the final season so that even if not all the fans agree the writers can give it a proper ending the way they see fit! Those are some of the best finales like The Big Bang Theory and How To Get Away With Murder. And Manifest was pretty good.
Some, not all, of these shows ended right where they needed to. Wyonna Earp is a good example. I think if they had tried to stretch it out for even one more season the fans would have not liked it. It was an awesome show, one you never want to end, but you know it has to at some point. Some of the shows that ended should have gone on, Legacies could have lived for a few more seasons written correctly, but looking at where they were supposed to go, I’m kind of glad they ended where they did. I hate time jumps, I also hate it when during these jumps some character favorite simply disappear. Well at this point it doesn’t matter, these shows are gone, never to return.
Still so mad about The Glades.
It’d be nice if instead of reposting everything, we could get an article with just the new additions and then a link to the prior mentioned shows… But that’s just me. Or maybe a line at the top saying ‘These are the specific newly added mentions to this list: ‘
Strongly seconded!
Debris and Prodical Son!
i wish MacGyver could have gotten just ONE more season or even a movie to get Mac and Riley together officially. I was so crushed it got cancelled.
I still miss Reef Break – that ended on quite a cliffhanger.
Still peeved about Bunheads, Forever and Hindsight. Imposters and God Friended me are my honorable mentions.
So many great shows on this list, gone before they should have been. :(
