Think the only new show I’ll be watching is Georgie and Mandy. So many dull sounding medical and crime procedurals this year.
So many good shows canceled and replaced by similar content, yet the execs stay they wanted to freshen up the line up. Nothing stands out as ‘new or ‘fresh’. I will watch a few of them but I won’t get too attached to any or hold my breath for renewals when no one seems to know the rationale behind cancelations, it used to be ratings but this season shows with good ratings, strong fan base and great content got booted. IMO its just payback for the strike!🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
A ton of new medical shows!! <3
Who remembers when scripted TV wasn’t all crime and medical melodrama? They cancel good, innovative shows with strong fandoms, only to replace them with the same old concept, rehashed with new faces. Whatever happened to escapism through TV, instead of constant reminders that today’s world is a dark place full of tragedies that make little sense? Thankfully, we get a few sitcoms tossed in, but few of those last long, and the mockumentary format is way overused. And let’s not forget about the type of show we used to have to stay home sick to watch, as they were relegated to daytime, that fill up the rest of the night. Who remembers when Tuesdays and Thursdays were filled with fantastic sitcoms, and if dark shows were scheduled on the same night, they were relegated to the 10 pm slot, once Family Time was passed and the young ‘uns were headed off to bed?

We are in the days of too much content with a million ways to watch it, yet the quality has become abysmal, almost as if Network Free TV is trying to kill themselves off, similar to what the print newspapers did. Since pay TV has as many commercials as OTA these days, why not hit the pockets of the consumer up as well as those of the advertiser? And spread it amongst so many subscription services, we can make it an expense comparable to a car payment for most households too!
–
I may be old enough to remember the days of 5 channels, rabbit ears, and b/w TVs in the kids’ bedrooms, but I miss the days when TV was good, free, and paid for by ads. And I miss the days where the ONLY reason you’d pay for this type of content was to get it ad free.

All that being said, I am looking forward to checking out Reba’s new show, as well as the Georgie-Mandy spin off, but not a whole lot more from this season as portrayed in this article.
I am intrigued in Murder in a Small Town. Stana Katic from Castle and Absentia is also cast but only for one episode according to imbd. What a bummer!
I still can’t believe CBS cancelled So Help Me Todd for some of this crap.
They really should’ve just cut the episode order to 13 and moved it to summer. Todd was light and flufffy and would’ve been perfect for the summer schedule.
i really am shocked and mad about So help me Todd!. When I mentioned this on another platform, I got many of the same response. Is it possible to move it to a smarter station???
I totally agree! Just started watching and love it! Seems like I’m the kiss of death for shows. The ones I like, always get cancelled
They cancelled Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon for this list of fresh garbage? I’m done with network TV
Both Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon — two shows that I truly love — had run their course. Blue Bloods had aged — and not just the lead characters. Young Sheldon told the story of Young Sheldon until he left for California. The story was complete.
And calling something fresh garbage when it hasn’t even aired yet is a little bit rash …
Reba McEntire’s show is the only one that catches my eye, only because of her hit show Reba! I’d like to see how that storyline goes.
The inclusion of Melissa Peterman kills it for me. Pass
Her character was very annoying on “Reba”. I know this is supposed to be a different show and she will hopefully be playing a different character, but I will probably pass. Too bad because I really like Rex.
St. Denis and Watson are the only shows I care to take a look at. The only returefdffgfeng shows I have are Ghosts, Night Court and Transplant (If they actually air it!?) So total broadcast tv time in the fall will be 1h30m. (How the times have changed.)
Not optimistic about any of these, some for premise others for casting. We”ll see.
l
Wow,
So, CBS not only is unable to come up with anything other than tired cop dramas, it now seems they can’t even come up with anything other than retread names for shows.
e.g Matlock
In the words of the great philosopher Phoebe Buffay, lather rinse repeeeat, lather rinse repeeeeeaaaatttttt….
Seriously, is there a single original idea anymore? Not only does Zachary Quinto’s show’s premise sound like the same thing has been done before, it even has the exact same logline!
As for Reba’s show, I love Reba but McLeod’s Daughters called and they want their plot back.
And of course we need yet another “unconventional knack for solving crimes” show because goodness forbid there not be a new one every season.
So they cancel NCIS Hawaii and replace it WITH NCIS Origins, why? NCIS Hawaii was a great and popular show and than they leave us with a cliff hanger. That is bull and pisses me off?
Ugh to a redo of Matlock and particularly with Kathy Bates.
Matlock isn’t my cup of tea, but Kathy Bates is an amazing, talented actress. Good luck to her.
Wow. Must be a forfeit year. Boring same same same. Can’t we get past crime and doctors. Wasn’t interested in another Reba series until seeing that list.
I still don’t understand why so help me Todd was canceled. It was such a fun and engaging show. Is there any hope it will be saved or resurrected elsewhere?
I do understand how important ratings are, but there were shows that had worse ratings that are coming back for another season. This just doesn’t make sense.
Why watch any of these shows? I am sure they will all just be canceled so new shows can take their place regardless of whether the old show was doing good or not (So Help Me Todd). And TV execs wonder why people are giving up on cable TV!
ABC’s lineup sucks. They are saving most of the good stuff till midseason. Not having Will Trent and The Rookie until then is bad news for the network in my opinion. I usually have 8-10 shows I watch on ABC. This Sept there will only be 4. Just my opinion.
I totally agree the line up this sucks
Five shows I’ll probably watch.
Doctor Odyessy, ABC- maybe. I like Joshua Jackson and the cruise setting is interesting. I need to see an actual trailer.
Georgie and Mandy, CBS. I watched Young Sheldon and like the two characters so I’ll watch the spin off.
Happy’s Place, NBC. Love Reba and Melissa together, premise seems cute…I’ll give it a try as sitcoms are getting few and far between. I typically prefer family/friend based sitcoms over workplace set ones, this seems like a good halfway point.
Murder in a Small Town, Fox. I’m a sucker for a coastal setting mystery so this is a must-try for me. Not familiar with the lead but the first trailer is intriguing.
Rescue: Hi-Surf, Fox. The show I’m most excited for. I’ve fallen into a rabbit hole of watching Baywatch on my Samsung tv so I’m excited to watch an updated version. Seems like Fox is excited about it too since they’ve already given it the post-Super Bowl shot so I have high hopes too.
The lead is Rossif Sutherland, Donald Sutherland’s younger son and half brother to Kiefer Sutherland. He was on the CW show Reign in its early seasons as Nostradamus. He’s also done a couple episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale.
Murder in a Small Town sounds a lot like the Jesse Stone series with Tom Selleck. I usually don’t watch the CW channel, but I will check this one out.
Ok thought the same thing when I read the rundown. A month or so ago, I just watched all the Jesse Stone movies. I remembered a few, but hadn’t seen them all. So looking forward to this series as well.
REALLY happy for a 3rd Season of Will Trent + more episodes! Just have to work on my patience. :) Most of the new shows coming sound underwhelming.
LOVE Will Trent
Why are they taking off the best programs like the good doctor NCIS Hawii Csi Vagas NCIS. These are programs we’ve watch for years.and you keep the Simpson. That’s the worst show ever.ive watched the young and restless for 50 years.you keep shows that give you entertainment for years.swat seal team and all the NCIS PROGRAMS I WAIT EVERY WEEK TO WATCH
The new show starring Reba seems to be the best bet. Still upset over the cancelling of So Help Me Todd!!
Why is every new show a medical or criminal show?
None of these shows appeal to me and they cancelled good shows to make way for these. At least I won’t be bogged down watching TV
I’m in for NCIS Origins just to hear Mark Harmon’s voice again! Seriously though, I think it will be a good show.
