Billy Bob Thornton is taking on “the most dangerous job in the world” — oil extraction, that is — in a new trailer for the Paramount+ drama Landman.
Hailing from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, Landman stars Thornton (Fargo) as Tommy Norris, a crisis manager for an oil company in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas. Jon Hamm (Mad Men) plays Monty Miller, a titan of the Texas oil industry who has a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy, while Demi Moore (FEUD: Capote vs. the Swans) plays Monty’s wife Cami.
In the literally explosive trailer released Thursday (which you can watch above), Thornton’s Tommy gives viewers a primer on the oil business, revealing the extreme dangers that go hand in hand with making the industry so profitable. (“We don’t do it ’cause we like it,” Tommy says of extracting oil from the ground. “We do it ’cause we run out of options.”)
Landman‘s cast also includes Ali Larter (The Rookie), Michelle Randolph (1923), Kayla Wallace (When Calls the Heart), Jacob Lofland (Justified), James Jordan (Yellowstone), Mark Collie (Nashville) and Paulina Chávez (Fate: The Winx Saga). Andy Garcia (Rebel) and Michael Peña (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) will guest-star as well.
Based on the podcast Boomtown, the series is described as “a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs” and “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics,” per the official synopsis.
Landman premieres with two episodes on Sunday, Nov. 17, on Paramount+, followed by one new episode weekly. Watch the latest trailer above, then keep scrolling for first-look photos of the cast, and tell us if you’ll give Landman a watch.
Demi Moore said on Cannes that the show has been already renewed, in case you want to add that information
Maybe Sheridan should concentrate on finishing a series before starting more . He screwed up one of the best shows in year failing big on Yellowstone series
There is no “finishing” Yellowstone. The aspects of the show that are the most popular have inevitable ends.
.
Beyond that, Yellowstone operates like a streaming show, even though it is a cable show. By that, I mean that that show shoots when the writer/scripts are ready. The cast is expected to be available whenever that is. For most actors, that isn’t a real problem. And, they can and do bring in bigger name actors to do season long arcs. But a big name lead actor quickly chafes under this. He or she has to forgo other opportunities to stay ready to shoot the streaming role. The lead time for these projects shocked me. Movies can take years to line everything up. Regular TV shows have fairly set shooting schedules that stop/start at set times each year.
.
These streamers give a heads up a couple weeks out that they are ready to go. Costner was never going to be OK with that long term.
.
But that might change, dramatically, in the near future.
Glad you listed names as I couldn’t tell that was Demi Moore at all!
Sheridan needs to get a grip and stop working on so many shows at once. It’s already cost us Yellowstone.
No. Taylor Sheridan and his ego have lost me with his behind the scenes drama with Yellowstone. I may watch season 2 of 1923 if it ever gets completed but that’s it for me.
This is like Dallas v. 3.0.
Just “Monty’s Daughter” she doesn’t have a name?
After the way Taylor Sheridan’s ego has gotten out of control and he’s screwed up the Yellowstone universe trying to win a power struggle over Kevin Costner, I’m inclined not to watch anymore of his shows. God forbid we should compromise and be cooperative. My opinion on this stems from what I read going back to the year before it all blew up, where it was stated that Kevin Costner had already made everyone aware of his other passion project coming up, so that they could all work together to plan the shooting schedules in the best way possible for everyone involved. And instead, Taylor changed the shooting schedule for Yellowstone and tried to force Kevin Costner’s hand, to choose between Yellowstone and his passion project, and Kevin didn’t give into that. People can say whatever they want about Kevin Costner. Those facts to me are unacceptable. There’s no reason they couldn’t have worked it out way in advance. One person chose to try to work as a team, and the other chose to be a dictator. And now here we are with season 5 coming back without the patriarch of the family, not to mention when he sued Cole Hauser for his coffee brand logo being too similar to Taylor. Dude is on a power trip. What happened to using good communication skills? I can’t support him.
I LOVED Yellowstone! But I will NEVER watch another Taylor Sharadon series ever again!! That argent foul could have continued Yellowstone but because of his argent selfishness he ruined it for everyone.
You mean ‘Michelle Randolph (1923)’, not Norris.
As long as Taylor Sheridan is making tv shows, James Jordan will be employed.
I’ll can’t wait I’ll be watching
3 ty Sheridan shows at the same time seems like too much
Looks good I’m in!!
There’s a non-dark side to the oil industry?
Big Oil all over tvline by the look of things.
Nice little callback to Billy Bob’s role in Friday Night Lights with them showing shots of Permian High School’s football team.
