Apple TV+’s Jason Segel and Harrison Ford-led dramedy now has a return date and a brand-new trailer. Shrinking‘s supersized 12-episode (!) Season 2 kicks off Wednesday, Oct. 16, with two episodes, and you can get your very first look in the clip above.
Shrinking follows a grieving therapist (Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. “Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives… including his own,” reads the official description.
In the new scenes from Season 2 (watch the trailer embedded above), Jimmy clearly has some unresolved feelings about both his incarcerated patient Grace (Heidi Gardner) and his own grief. Despite trying to keep it all together, his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) begins to worry as she notices some odd changes. (Guess waking up screaming isn’t exactly normal, but what is nowadays?)
We also catch small glimpses into Sean’s fears, Paul and Jimmy’s attempts to find middle ground and special guest star Damon Wayans Jr. (Happy Endings).
The cast for Season 2 also includes Jessica Williams (The Daily Show), Christa Miller (Cougar Town), Maxwell (Generation), Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), Luke Tennie (Players) and Ted McGinley (Married… With Children). The Season 1 finale (read our recap here for a refresher) dropped March 24, 2023.
Co-creator and writer Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) is set to guest-star in the forthcoming sophomore run. Details about Goldstein’s role are currently being kept under wraps, but during a 2023 interview in Variety‘s Actors on Actors series, he confirmed there had been “talk” with Shrinking‘s creative team about casting him as a Season 2 character.
“I’ll only do it if it’s a sexy part,” Goldstein joked to The White Lotus‘ Theo James, adding more seriously, “I don’t want to be there for the sake of — just ’cause I want to hang out with [the cast].”

Absolutely loved season 1, can’t wait for season 2!
By far the best show I saw all of last year. To me it was better than Ted Lasso, which I liked a lot.
Woo hoo!! I’m so pumped for season 2!
YAY! This was a pleasant surprise for me when I finally got around to watching the first season, so I’m happy the next season is here and with more episodes than the first season!
