At iCana, we are passionate and dedicated to designing and building RF Semiconductor ICs for Wireless Communication. Our company was formed in 2022 when Foxconn acquired arQana Technologies 5G Wireless Telecommunication business. iCana, with R&D offices in Taiwan, Belgium, USA and Singapore, is a dynamic international company in the semiconductor industry. Today, we have more than 75 people working across the globe and we will grow even more! In iCana we focus on 5G infrastructure, manage the end-to-end process from designing RF and mmWave integrated circuits to manufacturing them with the foundries.     🚀 Last week, we had the privilege of having our RFFE IC Design Manager, Clément Potier, and Staff RFFE IC Design Engineer, Bharat Kalyan Thota, deliver three insightful lectures on GaN RF IC design at KU Leuven. They covered everything from foundational PA knowledge to advanced high-power RF PA design and the role of GaN technology in telecom. This was not just an educational opportunity for the students, but also a valuable chance for our experts to share their knowledge and inspire the next generation of engineers. A heartfelt thank you to Clément and Bharat for their dedication and to KU Leuven for hosting such a meaningful event! It was a tremendous honor to complete this course alongside our esteemed partners: BelGaN, MinDCet, imec, Cambridge GaN Devices Ltd, and, of course, KU Leuven. After a refreshing look at the usage of GaN devices in RF applications, energetically taught by Bharat Kalyan Thota and Clément Potier, both iCana-employees, today, we are having a closer look into the design of power electronics by Valentijn De Smedt from KU Leuven Faculty of Engineering Technology - Geel Campus and my friends, Mike Wens and Jef Thone from MinDCet.

    🚀 Exciting developments in GaN technology! This Monday marked the launch of our GaN technology and design course. This is the third micro-credential offering this year from KU Leuven and a significant milestone for the GaN community.    After the first day of the course, we were thrilled to host a social hour after the first day of the course at iCana’s Belgium office, where our members had the opportunity to connect with enthusiastic students and share more about iCana’s mission.    Looking ahead, this Thursday, our RFFE IC Design Manager, Clément Potier, and Staff RFFE IC Design Engineer, Bharat Kalyan Thota, will deliver lectures on GaN RF IC design.     Last week, our esteemed members Dr. Davide Guermandi and Dr. Elly De Pelecijn showcased their expertise and shared invaluable insights with the next generation at the 50th ESSERC Conference! It’s inspiring to see such dedication to fostering growth and knowledge in our field. Great job, Davide and Elly! 👏

    What an insightful day at ESSERC 2024 Circuit Insights! Thank you Albert Theuwissen for the Basics of CMOS Imaging, Tim Piessens for Sensors Everywhere, Chris Mangelsdorf for Data Converters: Our Only Connection to the Matrix, Arnoud van der Wel for the Circuits behind Ultra-Wide Band (UWB), Charlotte Frenkel for Fundamentals of Circuit Design for AI/ML, Elly De Pelecijn for Circuits for 5G Wireless Systems, and Fabio Padovan for Circuits in Cars. Also, thank you for an engaging panel discussions at the end. On behalf of all the participants of Circuit Insights (students from Belgium, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, and myself), I appreciate all the gems you gave us in one short day. I know that I will continue to be mesmerized with the concept of generating an electron-hole pair with every photon, sweeping all the holes to one side, and counting the number of electrons to find how bright a pixel should be (thank you Albert Theuwissen). I was surprised to find out how the grocery store owners were practically doing Analog to Digital Conversions with their balance scale (what an amazing analogy Chris Mangelsdorf!). And I did not know that the concepts of ranging and UWB can be explained in such an intuitive way (thank you Arnoud van der Wel). I cannot wait to go over all the recorded videos to absorb more of what you have all told us. And thank you all the students, engineers, and colleagues, who joined us in this event, asked great questions, and added value to our day! For those of you who missed these great lecture series, stay tuned! The IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society will soon release all the recoded videos of this event on its youtube channel.
