We are Mecanoo, an international practice focused on architecture, urban planning, landscape, interior & restoration.
關於我們
Mecanoo, officially founded in Delft in 1984, is made up of a highly multidisciplinary staff of creative professionals from 25 countries. The team includes architects, interior designers, urban planners, landscape architects as well as architectural technicians and support staff. Mecanoo is led by Francine Houben (Creative Director & Founding Partner), Floris Overheul (Financial Director), Dick van Gameren (Design & Research Partner), and Partners/Architects Nuno Fontarra, Rick Splinter and Arne Lijbers. Mecanoo has extensive experience designing and realising exceptional buildings which serve client ambitions while creating vibrant end-user spaces. Each project responds to our philosophy of People, Place and Purpose: to the client’s requirements and the user’s needs (People); the physical context, climate and culture (Place); and the current and predicted potential of a building’s function (Purpose). The result is unique solutions for each varying situation, in which the disciplines of architecture, urban planning, landscape and interior combine in a non-traditional way. Over the years we have learned that functions inevitably change. Therefore, we must create buildings that are prepared for (un)predictable change. Sustainability is an inherent aspect of our design approach, feeding into an ambition to create new identity in a world of globalization, resulting in inspiring and authentic places, socially relevant for people and communities. Preoccupied not by a focus on form, but on process, consultation, context, urban scale and integrated sustainable design strategies, the practice creates culturally significant buildings with a human touch.

As the most iconic element of the Ede-Wageningen Train Station, the wooden roof mimics a tree canopy. It boasts visual simplicity and sophistication, uniformly connecting the various quadrants of the transport hub, ensuring orientation from all sides. The roof is composed of 23 wooden triangles, each measuring 27 metres long. Almost every node and column faces a different direction, carrying a significant force load while still maintaining the architectural ambition. The triangular skylights allow daylight to fall on the platform and lead passengers to the pedestrian tunnel. Just in! Mecanoo and Office Raumplan to lead transformation of Museum Drachten into a future-proof cultural hub! Mecanoo and Raumplan have been selected by the municipality of Smallingerland and Museum Dr8888 to lead an ambitious renovation and expansion of the museum. This transformative project aims to enhance the museum’s appeal and revitalise Drachten’s city centre. The design will be further developed, with construction slated to start in 2026 and completion expected by early 2028. Museum Dr8888 intends to remain open to the public throughout the entire construction period, ensuring continued access to its collections and exhibitions. Museum Director Wybren Jorritsma also highlighted the importance of this transformation, emphasising Mecanoo and Raumplan’s understanding of the regional and (inter)national importance of the museum’s modern art collection. "This historic former monastery deserves an updated identity, and we are confident that Mecanoo and Raumplan will deliver a design that truly uplifts both the museum and the town of Drachten." We are incredibly proud to announce that, after 2.5 years of hard work, we have received unanimous approval from the LLDC Planning Committee for our London project, IQLN! The International Quarter London North (IQLN) development builds on the Olympic legacy and will transform Stratford Town Centre. Praised for its high-quality and distinctive design, it will introduce world-class public spaces, community areas, flexible commercial spaces, and workspaces across six new buildings, some reaching heights of up to 32 storeys. The project also includes approximately 672 new homes, with truly affordable, policy-compliant housing, as well as accommodation for 909 students (42.5% of which will be affordable). This achievement has been a long journey, and we couldn’t have reached this milestone without the relentless dedication and energy of everyone involved. We want to particularly thank our client, Hadley Property Group, and Planning Consultant, Deloitte, for their remarkable and intense collaboration, which has made this success possible. Exploring the striking black-and-white impressions of Mecanoo's National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), captured through the lens of Instagram user hayl.cc Davis Photography. The monochrome palette highlights the intricate architecture and fluid lines of the space, emphasising the bold shapes and dramatic contrasts of this iconic cultural landmark in Taiwan. Each photo beautifully reflects the interplay of light and shadow, offering a unique perspective on the structure's elegant design. The building is inspired by the banyan trees of the surrounding park, with its fluid form echoing the natural landscape. Honouring History: The New Vision for Kamp Westerbork! On Thursday, October 17, the renovation plans of the Remembrance Centre Kamp Westerbork were presented. Director Bertien Minco of the Remembrance Centre handed over the plans to Mayor Jan Zwiers of the Gemeente Midden-Drenthe and Deputy Jisse Otter of the Provincie Drenthe in the barrack on the campgrounds. The project, developed in collaboration with Mecanoo, Kossmanndejong, and RYSE, aims to transform this historic World War II deportation site in the Netherlands into a more immersive and engaging experience for visitors. Rather than reconstructing the original camp, the new design focuses on creating a serene, sensory experience. Visitors will encounter areas that highlight different aspects of the camp’s history, alongside audio stories by victims, perpetrators, and witnesses. These stories will be spread throughout the grounds, helping visitors to connect deeply with the history of the site. The renewal plans also include a new memorial listing the names of deportees, placed along the former railway line connecting the new museum to the campsite. The museum will provide a space for reflection and learning. The project seeks to keep the memory of Kamp Westerbork alive, ensuring that its stories continue to resonate with future generations.
