The NEC Group’s aspirations then and now: From C&C to social value innovator 🖊 In 1977, then-Chairman Koji Kobayashi unveiled the concept of C&C (Computers & Communications), which refers to the integration of computer and communications technologies, in his keynote speech at a major communications exhibition held in the U.S. city of Atlanta. 💡 In 1982, the Harvard Business School in the U.S. selected NEC's C&C strategy as a case study material, and invited Chairman Kobayashi to deliver a special commemorative lecture on December 6 of the same year. The NEC Group has supported domestic monozukuri (the art of Japanese manufacturing) for many years.  As global demand for semiconductors rises, so does the need for factory facility management. In response to these trends, NEC Facilities established a new experiential training facility called FM-Base at the NEC Abiko Plant in May 2024. 🏢 The NEC Group once had a number of semiconductor factories. To pass down the facility management know-how gained by NEC in the manufacturing industry, a variety of equipment resembling that used in actual factories has been set up at FM-Base to provide trainees with a realistic experience. The addition of initiatives to boost operational efficiency by using image analysis, generative AI, and other technologies is also under consideration. The NEC Group's space development business began in 1956, leveraging the technologies it had developed through its telecommunications business. The establishment of the Aerospace Development Division in 1965 paved the way for the NEC Group to launch a full-scale space development business. 🚀 In 1966, NEC delivered the prototype model for the first scientific satellite. Then, in July of that same year, it formed a Satellite Department within the Aerospace Development Division, solidifying NEC’s satellite development program. And in 1970, all of this culminated with the advent of Ohsumi, Japan’s first satellite. 📡 In 1987, MOMO-1, Japan’s first Earth observation satellite for marine phenomena, was launched. NEC contributed to marine observation through the development of high-resolution sensors for visible and near-infrared radiometers, remote sensing processing systems for processing observation data, and more. 👍 Over the past half century, NEC has developed and manufactured around 80 satellites and supplied approximately 8,000 units of equipment to about 300 satellites worldwide. #NEC #NECglobal #NECs125th #Celebrating125yearsofNEC

The NEC Group celebrated its 125th anniversary on July 17. To commemorate this, we would like to reflect on NEC's history and look back on the technologies and milestones that connect us to the future. ✏️ NEC was established on July 17, 1899, the very same day that revised treaties between Japan and other countries went into effect. It was founded by Kunihiko Iwadare, who once worked with Thomas Edison. Guided by the founding spirit of "Better Products, Better Services," the NEC Group began its journey selling telephones, switching systems, cables, and other imported products. ☎️ We will soon be sharing updates about NEC's journey in a series of posts. NEC Corporation has published the ESG Databook 2024, a report on its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives from April 2023 onwards. The main initiatives outlined in the ESG Databook 2024 are as follows: Utilization of Sustainability Information Disclosure Standards, initiatives to reduce capital costs, measures to strengthen security for NEC and society, as well as activities to uphold corporate governance and maintain inclusion in major ESG indices.
