Meet Our Mentor : Elena Popescu Elena Popescu, MS and PhD in Power Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, is a distinguished expert in nuclear energy and energy policy. With over a decade as General Director for Energy Policy in Romania's Ministry of Energy and current Deputy Director General, she has led major strategic investments and developed key energy policies, including the National Energy Strategy. Elena has represented Romania in European energy negotiations, co-chaired the Nuclear Energy Working Group in P-TECC, and actively contributed to the European Nuclear Alliance and SMR initiatives. The discussions today delved into important issues such as small modular reactors (SMR), misinformation and propaganda, nuclear security, and the role of diplomacy in the nuclear sector. As we conclude Day One of the BSWN Conference, we reflect on the diverse presentations and discussions that took place. We would like to thank our panel speakers for sharing their valuable experiences, which enriched our understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the nuclear sector. The event showcased personal and professional narratives from women in the nuclear field, emphasizing best practices for empowering women, the critical role of role models, and the essential support systems needed for the next generation entering this industry. 🔑 Our keynote speaker, Ms. Taylor H. from the Department of Energy, joined us remotely and shared valuable insights into the importance of support and gender balance in the US Department of Energy.
