🎓 PRIVACY ACADEMY: RETROSPECTIVE A year ago, we held the Educational Camp "Privacy Academy" aimed at developing standards and a system of teaching data protection courses in higher education institutions in Ukraine. Now we are evaluating the long-term results and planning our further activities to build a privacy culture in Ukraine, so we decided to share the story of first Privacy Academy ❓How did the preparation for the Privacy Academy 2022 go? We received almost 300 applications and were pleasantly surprised by the high level of motivation of the participants. After careful consideration, we selected 30 professors and 6 students from 25 universities to participate in the Privacy Academy. A few days before the start, Russia launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine, firing 84 missiles. Several regions experienced power outages, which complicated the process. Despite these challenges, the team worked tirelessly to ensure that the Academy was held without any loss of quality in the online format. Experts from Berlin even came to Kyiv to deliver lectures. ❓How did the Privacy Academy 2022 take place? The participants were divided into six groups (law, international law, cybersecurity, medicine and healthcare, journalism, marketing), each of which consisted of professors of different specialities and students/postgraduates, which helped to take into account the interests of students and adapt the latest methods. ❓What were the lectures and seminars like? Within the framework of the Academy, we held a series of lectures and seminars totalling 30 academic hours with the involvement of both national and foreign experts (from the UK and Germany) The Privacy Academy also included specialised lectures covering data protection issues in specific fields such as law, international law, cybersecurity, healthcare, journalism and marketing. These lectures were designed to provide participants with practical knowledge and skills that they can apply in their respective fields. ❓How were the data protection courses created? The teams worked with the support of mentors to develop data protection courses for different specialities, which were then presented to the jury. After the Privacy Academy, the process of integrating the courses into the curriculum of higher education institutions began. And we look forward to continuing our efforts to raise awareness and respect for privacy in Ukrainian society. Look out for updates in the near future 🇺🇦 Be brave like Ukraine!
