🌱 #IGS #forecasts #record #soybean production in the world The IGS report, released on October 17, forecasts a record soybean production of 421 mln tons, up from 395 mln tons in MY 2023/24, as a number of the world's largest producers expect a bumper crop. Together with the higher carry-over stocks, the projected end-of-season stocks are up by 4 mln tons. Given the increased prospects for buyers in Africa and Asia, trade is forecast to increase by 1 million tons from September (+1% yoy). Trade is expected to rise to a peak of 179 mln tons, including another above-average season of shipments to China. “With rising demand from the feed, food and industrial sectors, which should support the upward trend in processing, global consumption is expected to increase by 5%, and total stocks will also reach a maximum,” the IGC said. 🇧🇩 #Bangladesh cuts #VAT on #soybean_oil and #palm_oil #imports On Thursday, October 17, the Bangladeshi government reduced the value added tax (VAT) on imports of soybean and palm oil from 15 percent to 10 percent, Prothom Alo writes. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued two separate notifications on the reduction of VAT on imports, processing and sales of soybean and palm oil. According to the document, producers of edible oil, which is mainly imported, are exempted from paying VAT. Bangladesh is one of the most promising destinations for vegetable oil supplies. In recent years, Bangladesh has significantly increased its imports of this product. In 2023/24, the country purchased 575 thsd tons of soybean oil.In 2023, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay supplied 275 thsd tons, 238 thsd tons and 112 thsd tons of oil to the country. It is expected that, despite the growth of domestic production (in 2023/24 - 364 thsd tons), by 2032/33 Bangladesh will increase the import of soybean oil to 890 thsd tons. 🇨🇳 Extreme weather may reduce #corn #harvest in #China Corn production in China may be significantly reduced this year, but this information has not yet affected prices. Extreme weather - from heat to floods - has significantly worsened the prospects for the corn crop in China. However, traders are not yet paying attention to this problem, given the large stocks and weak demand for the grain. However, if the situation does not improve and the government manages to boost economic development, China will have to increase corn imports. In 2023, China harvested a record 289 mln tons of corn, but in 2024, the harvest may decrease by 7% (or 5-20 mln tons), which will be the biggest drop since 2000, when production decreased by 17%. Harvesting will be completed in November, when the results will be known, but it is already clear that the market balance will not deteriorate much even in the case of such a deficit.
