Over 300 communication professionals from all levels of government have completed intensive training on countering disinformation and crisis communications. As part of a monthly programme implemented by UNDP in Ukraine in collaboration with the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security under the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, with funding from the Japan - The Government of Japan, participants from across Ukraine gain essential practical skills necessary for effectively responding to today's information challenges. 🔷What do we do? During the training, participants acquire key skills: 🔷Strategic Communications: Developing effective communication strategies and plans that strengthen Ukraine's image and reputation. 🔷Crisis Communications: Understanding the differences between a crisis and an incident, and creating communication plans to manage crises effectively. 🔷"One Voice" Policy: Mastering the "one voice" principle to ensure consistency in official government communications. 🔷Countering Disinformation: Learning tools to prevent, detect, and counter disinformation. 🔷Why is this important? Since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, strategic communications have become a cornerstone in protecting the state’s information space. Professional training for communicators is crucial to Ukraine's recovery and resilience against disinformation and information attacks. 🎞 In the video, we share the interim results of the training programme, participants' feedback, and insights from organizers and trainers on the importance of this initiative.

UNDP in Ukraine, with funding from the Government of Latvia, has facilitated the reconstruction of the Talalaivka Lyceum, a village school in Chernihiv Oblast, which was damaged by the Russian invasion. This is one of the four schools in the Talalaivka community and the only one in the village of Talalaivka itself. The educational institution has now been transformed into a modern and sustainable facility. With repairs to the building facade, improved insulation, renewed food block with a new water purification system installation, and repaired canteen, the lyceum now offers enhanced comfort and functionality for its 146 students. Overall, under the "Latvia for Chernihiv: Social Infrastructure Restoration" project, repair works on five facilities — Kyinka village kindergarten, Stary Bilous village school,  Talalaivka village school, 19 preschool in Chernihiv city and a kitchen block of the Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital — are set to be completed by the end of the 2024 year. 10 participants of a pilot humanitarian mine action training for people with disabilities due to explosive ordnance, including war veterans, launched by UNDP, the Government of the Netherlands, and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine have visited The HALO Trust training ground in Ukraine to learn more about UAVs and imagery analysis in humanitarian demining work. During this visit, the participants had an opportunity to explore how UAV specialists collect imagery over minefields and how imagery analysis is integrated into the humanitarian demining work. The HALO Trust team also displayed a number of mines and UXO typically found during clearance, as well as delved into non-technical survey techniques utilised in humanitarian mine action. Together with national and international partners, we are proud to support this vital initiative enhancing employment opportunities for people with disabilities and humanitarian mine action in Ukraine! This pioneering project is also aimed at contributing to social inclusion, empowerment, and rebuilding lives and communities. Strengthening the capacity of Rivne Oblast exporters through partnerships On 21 August, in collaboration with the German government, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine supported a seminar focused on developing the export potential of agricultural products in Rivne Oblast. The event facilitated the start of a dialogue between the government and businesses to enhance the export potential of local farmers. According to the regional state administration, the agriculture sphere in Rivne Oblast accounts for nearly a quarter of its gross domestic product, and the region's agro-industrial complex includes approximately 700 business entities. During the seminar, over 40 representatives from agricultural enterprises, executive authorities and the public sector discussed the following issues: • Mechanisms for uniting small agricultural producers to form large batches of grain and oilseeds for export; • Legal aspects of export activities, including obtaining exporter status and phytosanitary certificates, customs clearance of products, transit of agricultural products through the country, etc; • Financial instruments for export-oriented enterprises. The seminar concluded with a visit to one of the region's elevators to discuss the creation of a grain drying hub to assist in forming export batches for small and medium-sized producers in Rivne Oblast. The event was organised by the Rivne Oblast State Administration and UNDP Ukraine as part of the “Support to Inclusive Economic Development in Ukraine by Linking Export Strategy with Regional Development and SDGs” project. UNDP has launched an innovative project in Ukraine aimed at transforming demining operations and creating critical methodologies for mine action. This initiative features the deployment of sixteen Technical Survey Dogs (TSDs) alongside eight women handlers, and is a collaborative effort involving UNDP, the Ministry of Economy, National Mine Action Authority, the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) and APOPO – a non-profit organization renowned for its innovative use of trained animals. The project is being funded by the Netherlands and Spain. The project will focus on training and accrediting TSD teams to conduct thorough surveys in previously occupied territories, with the objective of establishing National Mine Action Standards under the leadership of the Ministry of Economy and National Mine Action Authority that are specifically tailored to the unique context of Ukraine. Over the next seven months, the teams are expected to survey around 1,800 square kilometres of land in Kharkiv Oblast, thereby enabling the safe return of invaluable land for productive use.
