Building a vibrant movement of girls and young women through education, mentorship, & economic inclusion.
About us
Since 2012, Girl Up Initiative Uganda (GUIU) has provided young women and girls with opportunities to succeed and thrive as leaders in their communities through holistic education and economic empowerment. We envision a world where girls are given the opportunity to reach and tap into their full potential through access to formal and non-formal education, economic inclusion, skills-building, and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. Our programs are driven by our communities, for our communities.

“At Girl Up, we don’t just teach skills; we ignite hope. Every time I see a girl realize her potential, I know we’re making progress. We are lighting one candle at a time, and each girl carries that flame back to her family, her village, and beyond. That’s what drives me every day. My journey is far from over, but with your support, we can continue to build a world where every girl has the chance to rise.” - Monica Nyiraguhabwa, Girl Up Initiative Uganda ➡️ Through WomenStrong International’s circle of leaders, Monica connects with like-minded women leaders. Together, they uplift each other, share knowledge, and find the strength to keep pushing forward — even in the face of tough challenges. Nurturing Well-Being for Young Women At Mazuri Design Hub, our mission goes beyond teaching Fashion and Design. We’re dedicated to nurturing the holistic well-being of young women, supporting not only their skills but also their mental health. Many of our participants come from backgrounds affected by violence, and we’re deeply committed to providing the psychological support they need to thrive. Recently, we partnered with Strong Minds to facilitate a counseling session focused on managing stress, depression, and anxiety. Together, we’re equipping these young women with the tools they need to cope, grow, and flourish in a safe, supportive environment. #Psychosocialsupport
