In Africa, the following are the normally used methods of waste management Open Dumping: Open dumping is prevalent in many parts of Africa, where waste is simply discarded in open areas, such as vacant lots or along roadsides. This method is often associated with informal settlements and areas lacking formal waste management services. Burning: Burning of waste is a widespread practice, particularly in rural areas where access to waste collection services is limited. While burning can reduce the volume of waste, it also releases harmful pollutants into the air, posing health risks to nearby communities. Pit Burial: In some rural communities, waste is disposed of by burying it in pits or trenches dug in the ground. While this method may help contain waste and prevent scavenging by animals, it can also lead to soil and groundwater contamination if not managed properly. Composting: Composting organic waste is practiced in agricultural communities, where organic waste such as crop residues, kitchen scraps, and animal manure are piled and allowed to decompose. The resulting compost is used to enrich soil fertility and improve agricultural productivity. Proper waste disposal ensures clean, greener and safe communities. #MotherEarthday
