From 7-9th Nov 2024, we were privileged to participate in the Trans-Africa Investment Summit. Organised under the theme: A Global Gateway for Development Collaboration between Africa and the Diaspora, the Summit was hosted by Pilot International and powered by Pilot International Inc.(Women Entrepreneurship Forum Africa-WEFA.Trans Africa Investment Summit) It provided a gateway to facilitate trade amongst African countries and the world by providing a physical networking platform for participants to interface with their potential clients and partners, exporters, importers, suppliers and distributors, as well as to attract investment opportunities for business. Our Energy Projects Manager Edna Nyamwaka discussed Heifer International’s agric tech work which leverages solar energy to improve both productivity and climate resilience for smallholder farmers. She also discussed our collaborative efforts currently being implemented like the DREEM Hub project with support from Mott Foundation to promote a stable water-energy nexus and how these efforts will support small holder farmers’ resilience and productivity. Heifer International started working in Uganda in 1982. We connect farmers with local groups and cooperatives where they can share their knowledge and access finance to grow their businesses. Uganda and Tanzania are both part of the East Africa Youth Inclusion Program, a flagship project with our partner the MasterCard Foundation. The project works to deliver sustainable livelihoods for 25,000 youth, through vocational skill-building and enterprise development.

We are privileged to host Mott Foundation Vice President Neal Hegarty to Uganda. He witnessed the beginning of a partnership between Heifer International and Kabaka Foundation aimed at implementing the DREEM Hub Project. The Project funded by @Mott Foundation is aimed at promoting solar energy solutions for agriculture across East Africa. The Attorney General of @Buganda Kingdom emphasized that this partnership shall enable the team to reach more farmers in Uganda. Neal noted that the Foundation ha invested usd20m to support work aimed at uplifting communities. “We work in TZ, Ke & Ug and we believe communities need each other.Mott ensures that we reach communities through averting climate change.” Deputy Prime Minister Buganda Kingdom said: “We grateful to Heifer who uplift our communities through flagship projects in dairy sector. Buganda is the agricultural land of Uganda. With just 30 percent of arable land under use. Support needed to include others. Coffee is our key cash crop whose productive needs boosting. 🌟 Key Remarks from Abdurahim Buyinza, Iganga Youth Chairperson 🌟 At the SAYE Youth Business Forum, Abdurahim Buyinza highlighted a critical issue facing youth in Iganga: the challenge of mindset. He emphasized that youth must take an active role in this project to achieve sustainable livelihoods. He also pointed out that government programs are available for youth to leverage, providing additional support. Furthermore, he urged youth-led businesses to ensure proper licensing, as this is essential for the growth and success of SMEs.
