To Our Amazing #SciComm Champions: Last year, your creativity and passion for wetlands conservation shone brightly in our science communication competition. From compelling stories to innovative visuals, you transformed complex research into powerful messages that resonated with communities. But remember, the road to conservation doesn’t end here. Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems on Earth, yet they are disappearing three times faster than forests. Your voices are crucial in raising awareness, influencing policies, and inspiring action to protect these vital habitats. Keep championing for nature. Keep amplifying research. Keep driving change. Whether through storytelling, advocacy, or community engagement, your efforts matter. Together, we can ensure a sustainable future for our planet. 🌍💧 #tbt #Africa #UniversityStudents #WetlandsConservation #ScienceCommunication #KeepGoing #NatureAdvocacy #Sustainability
About us
InfoNile is a cross-border group of geo-journalists with a mission to uncover critical stories on water issues in the Nile River Basin through data-based multimedia storytelling. We do this through providing story grants and mentorship to journalists across the Nile Basin to help them conduct in-depth stories on issues of water, environment, biodiversity and climate change. We focus on solutions journalism to highlight stories of solutions that are working to solve issues such as climate change and wildlife trafficking in local communities. In partnership with Code for Africa, we train and mentor these journalists in data journalism, visualization and geo-journalism. We produce original cross-border investigations on topics relevant to multiple countries and contexts in the transboundary Nile River basin, including foreign land deals, wildlife trafficking and conservation, climate change, and the impact of large-scale dams; in such a way we promote collaboration across countries and new geo-storytelling techniques such as data-based maps, drone videos and satellite imagery. We create interactive, actionable maps on issues of water and environment, and we "map" our stories onto these maps to provide a human layer to the data. InfoNile is a part of Water Journalists Africa, the largest network of journalists reporting on water issues in the African continent. We are largely funded by media development organizations, water research institutes, and donors interested in environmental conservation. Climate change is reshaping Uganda’s agricultural landscape, with unpredictable rains and environmental degradation threatening the backbone of the economy. Yet, high-quality media coverage of climate-smart agriculture remains limited, leaving many farmers and communities without the knowledge to adapt. This exhibition will showcase how innovative storytelling can bridge the gap. By equipping journalists and media houses in Northern and West Nile Uganda with the tools to report on climate change and adaptation, we’re empowering them to create localized, easy-to-understand content. These stories will reach smallholder farmers, women in refugee settlements, and other stakeholders, helping them make evidence-based decisions to boost productivity in a changing climate. Join us as we explore the power of media to drive climate action, share solutions, and build a more resilient agricultural future for Uganda. You cannot miss this exhibition! #ClimateSmartAgriculture #ClimateSmartAgric #CommunityExhibition #ClimateAction #Uganda #Sustainability #MediaForChange #FarmersFirst

Just think about the fact that not one of the toothbrushes you have used in your life has yet decomposed. Chances are high these are still standing in a landfill somewhere. Researchers have found that if plastic pollution continues as the current rate, by 2040 the annual amount of plastic waste will 29 million tons. @developmentaid We can do better, let’s #reduce #reuse #recycle plastics for clean water for all #March4Water

Twenty years ago, Ngara Town in Tanzania’s Kagera Region was surrounded by springs that provided clean water year-round. Today, climate change, pollution, and environmental degradation have dried up many of these vital sources. Over 70% of the rural population in the Nile Basin depends on groundwater for drinking, agriculture, and livestock, but deforestation, wetland cultivation, and invasive species like eucalyptus are pushing these resources to the brink. Despite efforts like the Kagera Region’s 73 water projects, costing over 62 billion shillings, access to clean water remains a challenge. . This year we are celebrating World Wildlife Day under theme, "Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet,"_ underscores the urgent need to fund biodiversity protection. With over 1 million species at risk of extinction (UN Report, 2023) and more than 50% of global GDP reliant on nature, the loss of wildlife threatens ecosystems, economies, and communities worldwide. Wildlife plays a vital role in achieving the goals of CITES (2021-2030), the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As we confront the triple planetary crisis—climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss—innovative finance is essential to safeguard our natural heritage. United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Let’s unite to protect wildlife, preserve ecosystems, and secure a sustainable future for generations to come. 🌿🦏 #WorldWildlifeDay #InvestInNature #Biodiversity #WildlifeConservation #Sustainability #CITES #KMGBF #2030Agenda
