Ms. Stella Alibateese, National Personal Data Protection Director, joined a panel at the 3rd East Africa Data Protection Knowledge Exchange held in Rwanda. She highlighted the need for regulators to develop tools to support Data Protection Officers comply with Data Protection and Privacy laws to promote self-regulation and greater accountability within these entities. She also applauded the East African Community Secretariat’s efforts in creating a harmonized environment to support cross-border data transfer laws within the East African region and requested the Secretariat to ensure that a regional legal framework supports the proposed cross-border data transfer mechanisms.
