Wrapped up an incredible #ImpactPioneers ‘24 Program! journey with Svenska institutet and a visit to #Stockholm #Sweden. I also attended the TECHARENA Conference where I interacted with Impact founders like Evoléna de Wilde d'Estmael 🌱 of Faircado (a 2nd hand option Ai shopping assistant) and Bas van Abel of Fairphone (a phone that gives you the power to repair) and Stephan Hofmann of Minimist (sells your 2nd hand items with a 5 sec ai posting). This experience has deepened my commitment to building our ecosystem and collaboration for impact-driven entrepreneurship at StartHub Africa. The keynote speaker Dex Hunter-Torricke was just magical.   I had a chance to visit and engage hubs like Norrsken, Vinnova, Sting, Epicenter Stockholm, Impact Hub Stockholm, and KTH Innovation, and this was my golden take-away.- 🥇 Each institution demonstrated strong collaboration and alignment between government, academia and industry to foster impact entrepreneurship 🌍   Key highlights from my week include: 1. Collaboration over competition – Being surrounded by innovators who share a collective vision made me realize the value of intentional networks that prioritize co-creation and shared impact. 2. Think Tech and AI, with sustainability in your plate – Learning about the intersection of these forces emphasized that the next decade is going to challenge and reshape industries globally. 3. I didn't Know Sweden was 2nd in the world with many Unicorns per capita after the US – top tech brands like; Spotify, Truecaller, Minecraft, Klarna, King (candy-crush), Sinch, Skype. 🤯   A big thank you to @Regina Summer, Catalina Robayo Serrano, Filippa Malmegård and Henric Hansson for the top tier and a well-organized program. To all my fellow #ImpactPioneers cheers for the inspiring discussions and shared experiences. Let’s continue to build ecosystems that drive innovation and impact together! 🌍💡   #ImpactPioneers #SwedishInstitute #Sustainability #Innovation #ImpactEntrepreneurship

Last Friday, we had the privilege of hosting Joel Muhumuza at StartHub Africa Spotlight Event as he shared invaluable insights on leadership, adaptability, and the power of collaboration for startups. Here are some key takeaways for entrepreneurs striving to grow and thrive in today’s ever-evolving landscape: ✔️ Think Locally, Act Collectively Joel emphasized that understanding your local context is crucial for startup growth. He highlighted the potential of a startups association, where founders support each other to uplift the community. Together, a determined group can accomplish more than any single individual. ✔️ Lead with Empathy "True leadership," he shared, "means understanding when to follow." Joel reminded us that as managers, empathy is essential. It’s about dropping the “I’m the boss” mindset and building flexible work environments where employees feel understood and respected. Remember: relationships are transactional, so always lead with fairness and integrity. ✔️ Learn from the Ordinary In a world that often celebrates the “flashy,” Joel encouraged us to notice the overlooked, ordinary things. These are often the elements that create lasting impact. Innovation doesn’t have to be grand to be transformative. ✔️ Start Where You Are For aspiring entrepreneurs, Joel’s advice is simple but powerful: “Start where you are, even if it’s small.” Failure is part of the journey. Just start, collaborate, and learn from those around you, life is a leap of faith, and progress begins with that first step. ✔️ Redefine Success Joel reminded us that “life makes sense in hindsight.” Often, it’s the small, ordinary actions that change the world, so look for purpose in the everyday. Missed this insightful session? Catch it on our YouTube channel—our StartHub Spotlight events are recorded and available to rewatch. And mark your calendar: join us every first Friday of the month to be inspired by top leaders and innovators. 👉 Who will we see at the next StartHub Spotlight? Let’s take this journey together! #StartHubSpotlight Joel Muhumuza| Stanbic Bank Uganda| Derrick Mugabi

Last week, we had the privilege of conducting hands-on research in #Gulu, where we dove into the local manufacturing of flour-based products like porridge. Meeting with one of the inspiring entrepreneurs, we learned about their unique and thoughtful approach to crafting high-quality porridge flour — a staple that’s both nutritious and tailored to the community’s needs. This experience opened our eyes to the vast potential in local manufacturing, reinforcing our vision of empowering regional industries and bringing impactful products to market. With each step, we’re reminded of the value in blending local wisdom with innovation. As StartHub Africa looks to expand its own manufacturing initiatives, we’re eager to create pathways for growth that benefit not only entrepreneurs but also the communities they serve. 📢Together, we can shape a future where locally made products drive economic progress and meet community needs. #Manufacturing StartHub Africa

The #YouthIgnite Student Founders Fellowship is here to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs! Launched by the UNDP's FUNGUO Innovation Programme with support from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the European Union, this exciting initiative is dedicated to inspiring students across Tanzania to embrace entrepreneurship as a meaningful career path. What Makes #YouthIgnite So Impactful? In today’s world, young entrepreneurs are at the forefront of innovation and transformation. This fellowship aims to: ✅ Inspire students to view entrepreneurship as a viable and impactful career choice. ✅ Develop young founders who are ready to drive economic and social change in their communities. ✅ Build a stronger entrepreneurship ecosystem, fostering connections between universities, investors, and innovation hubs. #YouthIgnite identifies Tanzania’s most promising student-led startups, providing these ventures with technical guidance, mentorship, and seed capital to help them thrive. The program also strengthens innovation ecosystems within universities, equipping hub managers with training and resources that nurture entrepreneurial talent right on campus. The journey began last week with the first-ever Hubs Managers Workshop held in collaboration with Westerwelle Startup Haus Arusha. Representatives from 10 Higher Learning Institutions across Tanzania came together to exchange insights and best practices essential for supporting student entrepreneurs. This collaborative spirit is key to creating a thriving environment for student-led innovation. Follow #YouthIgnite to stay in the loop, and join a movement that’s sparking fresh ideas, empowering leaders, and shaping the future. #YouthIgnite European Union| Westerwelle Startup Haus Arusha| UNDP Tanzania| Funguo Tanzania| University of Dodoma| University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM)University of Iringa| The State University of Zanzibar| sokoine universityofagriculture
