Yesterday, 6th November 2024, we joined ICPAU (Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda), in partnership with the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Uganda and New Vision Printing & Publishing Ltd, to celebrate and recognize excellence in financial reporting. The theme for this year's event, "Promoting Excellence in Corporate Reporting: Disclosing ESG Performance and Progress," highlighted the increasing need for transparency in how companies function and contribute to a sustainable future. While giving his remarks, our CEO, Mr. Paul Bwiso emphasized the UGANDA SECURITIES EXCHANGE (USE) commitment to transparency. He explained that USE’s participation in the #ICPAUFiReAwards2024 ensures that listed companies provide accurate and timely information, enabling investors to make informed decisions. He also extended his gratitude to the partners, sponsors and all the entities that participated in this year’s awards. He congratulated the awardees and category winners and reaffirmed that UGANDA SECURITIES EXCHANGE will continue to support this initiative (FiRe Awards), as it drives growth in the financial reporting sector. In his speech at the #ICPAUFiReAwards2024, the Chief Guest, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport, highlighted Uganda’s advancements in the finance sector. He specifically drew attention to the recent #WorldInvestorWeek2024, during which the Uganda Securities Exchange launched the e-purchase platform for treasury bills and bonds via the Easy Portal (http://scd.use.or.ug), making investing in Government Securities more accessible than ever. Our CEO, Mr. Paul Bwiso had the honour of presenting awards at the #ICPAUFiReAwards2024 in the Retirement Benefit Services and Regulatory Bodies & Associations categories. The Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) was established in 1997, as a company limited by guarantee, and was licensed in 1998 by the Capital Markets Authority to operate as an approved securities exchange. The Exchange is governed by a Governing Council whose membership includes licensed broker/dealer firms, investment advisers, a representative of investors and a representative of issuers. The Exchange is a central place for trading of securities by licensed brokers/dealers. It provides a credible platform for raising of capital; through the issuance of appropriate debt, equity and other instruments to the investing public. In this way, the Exchange provides essential facilities for the private sector and government to raise money for business expansion and enables the public to own shares in companies listed on the Exchange.
