Vijay Prashad writes about the changes needed in our international view of who are #refugees and how the international view of refugees is inadequate to the circumstances the world is faced. Dislocated persons amount to 30 million in Africa alone. This is not a temporary situation. The UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and all international players need to begin viewing refugees and dislocated persons as just part of the new global society which is permanently mobile by choice or circumstance. If we want to truly get governance on the state of humanity for peace, equity and security, we must begin to build policies that acknowledge that there is now a permanent migration of people from survival poor locations to survival rich locations. Mitigation of that level of #migration calls on nations to be rigorous in their laws against rogue corporate and national agents throughout the world from #taxavoidance, #moneylaundering to #conflict sponsorship. https://lnkd.in/gNAiFAFc

The Umoja Community Foundation is a refugee community based organisation in Nakivale Refugee Camps, Uganda. The refugees largely come from the Eastern DRC as the flee attacks on their villages. Although these attacks are attributed to Rwandan-backed M23 militants (Human Rights Watch) who themselves were refugees from Rwandan massacre, the issue of motivation has always been a puzzle and is more than likely a third party motivation for access to land and mineral wealth. This dossier is a well-draft historical and contemporary colonial-political analysis of the perpetration behind the scenes of the poverty of DRC as one of the mineral wealthiest countries in the world. The DRC not only should not have refugees but should and can have a burgeoning middle class across the nation, and the commensurate defences that go along with it. The metro-centric corruption that devalues the defence of the people of the eastern borderlands of the DRC, and the economic development of the 'peasants' of those regions, is as shameful as it is unnecessary. "This dossier was collaboratively produced by the Centre Culturel Andrée Blouin, the Centre for Research on the Congo-Kinshasa (CERECK), Likambo Ya Mabele (Land Sovereignty Movement), and Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. This dossier is dedicated to the millions of Congolese who have lost their lives over the years to meet market demands; to the freedom fighters of the Telema uprisings, whose perseverance influenced the 2018 presidential elections; and to Cédrick Nianza, Armand Tungulu, Floribert Chebeya, Thérèse Déchade Kapangala Mwanza, Rossy Tshimanga, and Luc Nkulula, who sacrificed their lives for the vision of a renewed Congo." https://lnkd.in/gDBGFYMC

Umoja Community Foundation reposted this
The Umoja Community Foundation has acquired a motorbike to enhance services in the Nakivale refugee community, Uganda. The funds to place a 50% deposit on a motor bike with an additional monthly repayment for one year, has sourced a motorbike. The team reports they are incredibly happy to now be able to carry two team members and materials to remoter villages of the three zones of Nakivale (Rubondo, Juru and Base Camp) up to 15 kilometres away. The teams will be able to consult with villagers about the variety of UCF programs which could be delivered in the villages including: 1. Ecological Farming Advice and training; 2. Monitoring and expansion of the Seeds Bank Project: Seed distribution 3. Expanding the biochar project for improving crop yields 4. Providing facilitation for the Youth Leadership and Project Management Course; 5. The Women Leadership and Mental Health Program. Routine funds are required to provide fuel and servicing of the motorbike. So any donations in this regard are appreciated. Donations to this fundraiser in general will be allocated to priority materials for the performance of UCF services. The motorbike is sure to show up in updates of the specific projects. https://gofund.me/084ac7ed Sushila Krishnaswamy-Chang Dr NAYITURIKI japhet Sam Fitsum Frednand Furia Peter Doyle

UCF is proud to announce that we have been working with Ecological Integration Designer, Maurício Umann, to design a Cultural and Skills Training Centre. We are expecting to be able to exhibit the final approved design outlook in the next two months. Mauricio is one of the many professionals who are providing seminal contributions to assist the vision of UCF for Nakivale and refugees in general, as a new type of modern society.
