Great to be at the Lower Thames Crossing Construction Leadership Council’s Five Client Carbon Commitments event last week to discuss how suppliers and clients can work together to achieve net zero. At Tarmac, we’re already supporting the transition with low carbon concrete solutions like CEVO that help clients reduce emissions. But for real change, we need scale and certainty. Seeing three more organisations sign up to the Five Client Carbon Commitments is really good to see - collaboration is key to driving progress. https://lnkd.in/eKCAcnsj

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. For the Heads of the Valleys project, 250,000 tonnes of aggregates came from our Circular Solution Aggregate sourced from Port Talbot. By using recycled materials, we’re reducing waste and contributing to a more sustainable future. Find out more about our circular construction solutions, here: https://lnkd.in/ewwGYHDr

First up at our Sustain Alliance Fleet Demonstration Day, we’re taking a deep dive into the future of construction logistics with our ‘Next Generation Vehicles’ session. We’re showcasing the latest in fleet innovation, designed to deliver materials more efficiently, safely, and sustainably: ✅ Tippers with advanced safety features like inclinometers. ✅ Walking Floors and Push-Out Trailers, improving discharge control and surface durability. With key partners like Newton Trailers Limited, SMT GB and Volvo Construction Equipment leading the way, these are the solutions that will support safer sites and lower emissions on projects like the Lower Thames Crossing.

We’re live today with Sustain Alliance from Tarmac Tilbury Depot for our Fleet Demonstration Day – a showcase of the innovative fleet that could help drive carbon out of the Lower Thames Crossing and other major infrastructure projects in the UK. Throughout the day, we’ll be sharing insights and highlights from each session, covering the future of sustainable logistics, next-generation vehicles, and live demonstrations across electric, efficient, and low-carbon technology. Thanks to all our guests for joining us!

Earlier this month at our Elstow site, we handed over the keys to our all female team. To celebrate International Women's Day, our ready-mix and asphalt plants were run entirely by our fantastic female team, and we welcomed two brilliant schools to see it all in action. From loading shovels to control rooms, it was all about showing what’s possible with a bit of confidence and a lot of curiosity. Big thanks to everyone who made this happen, and to the next generation who might just be driving our industry forward.

It’s been a fantastic couple of days at Interchange bringing together industry leaders to discuss the opportunities facing our sector. It was great to be part of the conversation and to share insights from the A64 resurfacing project in North Yorkshire - an excellent example of how innovative materials, forward-thinking processes, strong collaboration, and a willingness to challenge traditional approaches can deliver truly outstanding results. Thank you to Angela Halliwell from National Highways and Chris Wright, our Contracting Director for the North, for highlighting how this project has pushed the boundaries on carbon reduction and air quality, while maintaining the highest standards of delivery. Collaboration like this shows what's possible when we work together to build a more sustainable, resilient network.

It’s day two of Interchange! Yesterday we brought together local authorities, materials providers, consultants and contractors to explore how materials and stormwater solutions can work together to tackle water run-off, reduce pollution and build climate resilience into our roads. Expertly chaired by Daniel Jackson from CRH, the roundtable covered some big challenges and opportunities, including: ➡️ Managing highway run-off, with over 22,000 outfalls on the strategic network, nature-based solutions and funding through RIS3 will be key. ➡️ The role of progressive clients like Waltham Forest, showing how practical, proactive measures build local resilience. ➡️ Future-proofing streets, with new flood maps from the Environment Agency helping communities plan for retrofit solutions. ➡️ Water quality needing as much focus as flood prevention. ➡️ How the EV transition is already changing the pollutants we manage on our networks. ➡️ Smarter, data-led maintenance supporting better asset management. A huge thank you to all our speakers and contributors for such a valuable discussion. Tackling these issues needs collaboration, leadership, and long-term thinking solutions are out there, now it’s about driving them forward.
