National charity. Action for Ocean health. Support our mission to clean up the planet, 2 minutes at a time.

About us

The 2 Minute Foundation is a national charity based in Cornwall. We are environmental educators highlighting the detrimental effects that plastics have on the environment. Why we are here: We are passionate about changing more mindsets because: ● The ocean’s inhabitants provide us with 50% of the oxygen we breathe and capture the most carbon on the planet. ● Plastics misuse is harming wildlife, choking the oceans AND warming the planet. It is a fossil fuel (oil) and when burnt it gives off harmful green house gases (GHGs). ● Every piece of plastic ever produced never breaks down. It breaks up into smaller pieces to go and cause harm to wildlife and humans. What we do: We take action for ocean health and encourage everyone to take 2 minutes through: ● SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS – our pick up hashtags #2minutebeachclean & #2minutelitterpick encourage everyone to pick up litter and plastic pollution at the places they love, live and visit. #2minutesolution takes you on a journey to make simple manageable swops and #2minutesofpositivity helps celebrate the power of doing something good for the planet. ● CLEAN UP STATIONS - Our clean up Stations connect communities, act as beacons to stop littering and reduce litter in their area by 61%. ● 2 MINUTE BEACH SCHOOL - We provide online and on the beach sessions to individuals, schools, businesses and organisations. ● CORPORATE DAYS OUT & ACTIVATIONS – We help businesses hit their ESG targets and by partnering with us, 7 OF THE UNs sustainability goals are addressed. We encourage everyone to take 'action for ocean health'.

The judges praised the photo's captivating light and energy, aiming to raise awareness for conservation efforts amid biodiversity challenges. The winning images are now on display at the Natural History Museum and also available to view online.

Back in August, 2 Minute joined Adyen for an incredible day at Camber Sands. What began as a corporate social responsibility event turned into an amazing family day out on this stunning stretch of coastline. The amount of microplastics was overwhelming, and while our impact was just the beginning, what truly mattered was that we took action, shared our knowledge, and welcomed a whole new team of enthusiastic, inspired individuals into our community. A big thank you to Adyen for this wonderful opportunity!

It is with a mix of pride and sadness that we announce the conclusion of our Bude Pod, in its current form. After an incredibly successful four years of delivering free environmental education to the community, our funding has come to an end. As a result, we will be scaling back our activities starting in November. The success of Bude Pod has far exceeded our expectations, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunities we’ve had to make a lasting impact. Over the past four years, we have: • Hosted 63 school beach days • Completed 865 beach cleans • Contributed to 58 citizen science projects • Held 1219 environmental education sessions, including 998 for the Home Educated community • Delivered 150 hours of youth volunteering programs • Educated over 5000 young people While we are saddened by this transition, we remain hopeful that some elements of the Beach School and other local events will continue in the coming months. However, as always, this is dependent on securing future funding, so please keep an eye out for updates! A heartfelt thank you goes out to our incredible teachers, Liam and Fiona, whose passion, knowledge, and dedication have been invaluable to our community and charity. Their contributions have left a lasting mark on everyone who has had the privilege of learning from them. Most importantly, thank you to you—our supporters, volunteers, and participants—who have made the last four years such a rewarding experience. It has been a true honour and joy to introduce so many people to the wonders of our beautiful coastline. What happens now? All the Home-ed and Ocean Protector sessions from now until October 31st will continue as planned. All the Twilights and Weekend Wanders until the end of 2024 will go ahead. Any schools or groups with booking later in the year - we will be in touch to work with you on what we can do.

Our friends at Sip + Sea launched an amazing initiative on Northcott beach this summer in a bid to encourage people to help eliminate the litter issues that the beach faces, especially during the busier months. The scheme is quite simple: - Grab a bucket from the trailer - Do a beach clean, and in return get a free beverage The scheme has worked really well for them this summer, it has allowed people do their bit for the beach and also they have been rewarded for doing so, a win win! It has also likely meant that people purchase other food/drink on top of their free drink, as it can be a risk to offer something for free especially as a small business. Would you feel incentivised to do a #2minutebeachclean if there was an offer of a free drink?

Happy #SecondHandSeptember! Second Hand September is a brilliant campaign that Oxfam launched back 2019, and since then it has grown into an annual celebration! Join us in saying NO to fast fashion this month and YES to sustainability. By choosing to shop secondhand for the next 30 days, you’re not just refreshing your wardrobe—you’re also making a positive impact on our planet. How to take part: Thrift it: Explore local charity shops, vintage markets, or online resale platforms. Swap it: Host a clothing swap with friends or family. Upcycle it: Get creative and give old pieces new life! Every small step counts. Together, let’s reduce waste, support ethical fashion, and make conscious choices that benefit both people and the planet. Are you in? #SecondHandSeptember #SustainableFashion #ThriftedThreads #2MinuteSolution
