What's working in Google Ads in 2024: Combining exact match and phrase match keywords in ONE ad group. What most people do with match types is they decide upfront which match type makes sense for them: exact match or phrase match. However, what you should do instead is try that out for each keyword and then decide on an individual keyword basis if phrase match is better or exact match. But what's even better right now in 2024 is running both match types together in one ad group. So you will have the same keywords but different match types in one ad group. This way, you'll find out which match type is bringing the most results and weed out the ones draining your budget for nothing. What happens when you run both match types together is that it gives you expanded reach but more precision. So when you combine both match types, the exact match runs more aggressively and phrase match runs less aggressively. = more conversions at the same CPA.
